suspension lift

Really old stuff that got saved. Here are the old Nissan Patrol Club America messages from the 'General' category. Warning, it's dusty in here!

daner i appologize for the comment, i just re-read your post and saw that you called 6" long shackles rediculous and unsafe. i first interpreted it as 6" lifts are rediculous and unsafe. the wheeling i do requires more than 1 or 2 inches of lift which is why i have a spring over on my patrol and my landcruiser. so, i thought i resembled your remark        anyway, yes there is alot of work involved in a spring over, its not so hard to do, just many little things need to happen to make it right.  it is a big lift 5+". so i would think hard about what is wanted and what kind of wheelin is to be done before commiting to a spring over. i found the stock patrol drivetrain to be unsatifactory with big tires, i would have just swapped in different axles but decided a complete new drivetrain would be better off. so with me it was a cascade effect but thats what i was after. to help you think about it, here the things most common to a spring over in my experience. longer shocks, longer brake lines, longer d-shafts, rotating the front axle is highly recommended, total revamp of the steering set-up, and a new rear axle is a must with 35"+ tires, which of course puts a real strain on the drum brakes, so bigger brakes is a plus. yup lots of stuff to think about
