60Patrol

I have been away for close to two weeks for work and didn't get a chance to put the pan back on before I left. I'm hoping that there isn't any detrimental rust that has accumulated. I just got my oil pan gasket in and will be putting it in this weekend.

The oil pan gasket I got from Liftway fits perfect and I have cleaned the pan flange and will bolt it back on . Does anyone know the torque specs for the oil pan bolts I can't find them in the manual. Also I noticed on the rocker cover that the oil capacity says 5.3 litres . I'm slightly unclear as in the p series motor manual it says the oil pan capacity is 5.3 litres for the 680 series and 6.7 litres for the 60 series? What capacity should it be? Unless my rocker cover isn't original and is from a different motor?

Torque:
Oil pan bolts N·m (kg-m, ft-Ib) ..... 3.9 to 5.9 (0.4 to 0.6, 2.9 to 4.3)

As you can see, use the smaller wrench to tighten them. The cork splits easily when over torqued.

The oil capacity is correct at 5.3 litres (5.6 qts) The other figure is for the fire Patrol engine, that was also fitted with an oil cooler.

I still can't find those torque specs anywhere in the model p service manual but will tighten them to those. The new gasket I got is a cork and rubber combination which looks much more robust that a plain cork one. I notice in the p engine manual that they mention model 60, 680, and 4W73. What I the difference in the vehicles?

The torque values I got from de 1978 Service Manual. You are right regarding those values not appearing anywhere in the Engine manual, as incredible as it sound. With the rubber/cork gasket you probably can go a bit more.

For me, nothings beat the silicone for-a-gasket products. Even torque is of no concern.

The different models are a truck (680) and the Carrier (4W73).

The pan gasket I ordered worked great. I liked that it was a cork/rubber combo as it made installing it much easier. I got the pan all tightened up and the motor filled with fresh oil and a new wix filter. I filled the rad up with new coolant but noticed it leaking from the fitting I tapped into the Lower rad hose for the heater. I tried tightening the fitting but still leaks. There is a pic a few posts back. I was thinking of using Teflon tape on the threads and possibly some rtv silicone as a gasket. Any other ideas?

a picture would be helpful. I recently installed a heater on my Patrol and installed a fitting. I not sure if it will help or not, but you can maybe refer to that topic for some ideas if your situation doesn't get resolved. I factory style used wire clamps and not the 'band' type clamps.

Here is a pic of the lower rad hose and fitting that I made up . When I originally put it all together it leaks even when the fitting was tightened in the hose

My solution was to rough up the rubber of the hose around the hole with sand paper and the use rtv silicone as a gasket underneath the top flange of the fitting . I. Also applied a small amount of Teflon tape to the threads of the fitting. I tightened everything up and have left the rtv to cure. Hopefully this will solve my leak issue. For the life of me I could to get the fitting to remain straight when tight so it will just have to be a little cock eyed.
