Hate the tortoise.
When I get my property situation all lined up you can send him my way.
I don't hate him enough to spend $300 to ship him to Texas.
$300 buys me 2 gallons of epoxy primer for my 65.

Sanding..... I've been sanding.
sanding

sanding
and more sanding.
I spent 3 hours the other day with my 8 inch gear-reduction DA "Bondo Buster" and a 36 Grit disk, just trying to cut through all the old paint and body filler on one fender.
3 hours.
One fender.
Sanding.

Oh dear! Can you still feel the sander in your hands even though you have stopped?

Haha- Yes.

and I can hear that "whirrrr" sound in my sleep.
I think I'm going to give myself a year to get the body work and paint done,
Today I hope to break out the welder and start filling in the 10,000 or so holes that have been drilled in this body over the course of it's long life...
Then, I will resume sanding.

Earl Scheib would be proud! For those who don't know who Earl Scheib is,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Scheib . The company motto... "I'm Earl Scheib, and I'll paint any car, any color for $89.95. No ups, no extras."

Just think of what it WILL be once you're done... and have a raging case of HAVS from all the sanding!

Sorry... apparently I think I'm funny this morning!

We had Earl Scheib franchises all over the greater Cleveland Ohio area. The price was for paint/labor only. Prep work was "optional". The results usally reflected the lack of surface preparation.
Their other "unofficial" slogan was Leave the windows down and we'll do the interior for free!

I remember my parents getting their 1961 Cadillac painted there when it was $29.95. Those were the days.

I decided to take a break from sanding, and instead spend some time (way too much time) welding and grinding.
weld, grind..... weld, grind.... weld, grind
When I decided to use the firewall from my 66 for this project, I knew I was going to have to address the big hole that someone had started cutting in it at some point in the past (probably trying to get to the rear freeze plugs on the engine and cylinder head, I would guess)-

But still, I knew repairing this was going to be easier than re-fabricating the rusted out side vents on the original 65 firewall
So, first came the welding:

Then came the grinding (plus a little re-welding to fill a few pinholes)
CAM00796.jpg
Then I got to go around to the engine compartment and do it all again..!

Then I went around and did the "weld, grind" routine on about 50 "non-original" holes that been been drilled in this rig over the years.
And, since I had the camera out, I also shot a pic of the progress (or lack of progress) with the body sanding. There is a Patrol under all this bondo- I just know there is...
