I'm in somewhat the same situation, not with Patrols but with Studebakers. One thing I've decided is to lower my expectations -- I don't need to do the best ever in the world Studebaker restorations like I had envisioned 30 years ago -- time and money and space don't allow that even though I'm retired. But even more important, I sure wouldn't drive a 'perfect restoration', but that is what is most fun for me. So the emphasis will be on mechanically very sound vehicles, and cosmetically make them "20-footers".

The Patrol will be the same way, maintain the current original finish in as decent an appearance as possible ("patina" ), and get it running and stopping reliably so we can have FUN with it.

I moved Bart from it's resting space to the lift! There are a lot of homeless spiders now that its had its first bath (although it was soapless) since arriving!


Whoever cut those fenders was drunk!


At least they kept the dash intact


BTW, the name Bart came from the faded sticker on the back door -- it was a little less faded when I got it!


Sell it as is? Part it out? One thing for sure... I am over that fantasy of restoring multiple Patrols! One is enough for me! And, if I ever post otherwise, please remind me...

Sell it as is. You'd spend almost as much time parting it out as you would restoring it. And it will free up space, whereas parts scattered around take up more space.

Great observation! I think I literally was commenting on just how much space a disassembled Patrol takes up!

Oh yeah, the parts from a disassembled vehicle take up a BUNCH of space. I'm reassembling a vehicle that I disassembled in the early 1990s, and it's just amazing how much room is freeing up!!

Here's my super simple plan for Bart. I'm going to pull the handful of parts that I want from it... Then price the rest of it like it's on fire!

I made a list of the goodies I may need for Aerogirl and those that really should go with the Soft top when I send that one to a new home.

I'm gonna keep the transmission/transfer-case from Bart -- I kinda want to keep the engine that came out of Aerogirl together with the transmission/transfer-case that was married to it before the crash. So I'm going to inspect the transfer-case from Bart. If it's good, it will have a new home in Aerogirl.


You know, I've done the lift from below while the engine crane tugs from above... I am SO happy that I have a lift! I put the cart under the transfercase, tugged the trans back a few inches, then raised Bart off it!


And, Freedom!

I spent a few hours over the past couple days pulling the last few Bart parts that Aerogirl may need during her resurrection. I have to admit that it felt really wrong picking stuff off Bart... Like a vulture! It made me feel like I was violating my commitment to love, nurture, and take care of my cars! But, as I kept telling myself, that was the reason I bought Bart in the first place... parts!

I'm now down to the last two items to pull from Bart -- Seats and the sliding rear windows, The sliding windows are for Aerogirl. The seats are gonna go with the soft top -- No, I'm not planning on restoring that one. It will be re-homed it in the future and I think she deserves stock seats.

It's time to decide Bart's fate!

Here's the scoop -- Bart is rolling. I do need to get a tire that holds air for one corner, but I'll take care of that soon. The gas tank is there, the gas tank skid pad is there although it has a big, bu probably fixable, dent. The engine is in place -- valve cover is MIA and the manifolds are unbolted -- I have no idea on its internal condition, but perhaps it could be a rebuildable core? The trans/transfer case have been pulled are are staying with me.

Seriously, if you are interested, let me know and plan to show up with a trailer in the near future. I'll even help load! Otherwise, it's curtains for Bart...

Bart has a good hard top and some straight body panels, someone should be able to make a nice home for him.

It's been awhile -- life is really busy!
