The sand attachment for the pressure washer worked well, but it really chews through the sand- I used an entire 30 gallon barrel of sifted sand just to get the inner fenders and engine compartment clean.

Fortunately, sand is a zero-cost factor for me (I have a lifetime supply of 8 inch deep mortar sand out in the background of these pics) but still, screening and sifting it into buckets out in the heat is a miserable chore, as is shoveling the used sand back into the wheelbarrow and dumping it back out in the riding arena (but the paint flecks add a nice splash of color to their riding area .

On the outer fenders, I chose to use my DA with a 36 grit disk, and then I'll go back and clean up the deep grooves and corners with the water blaster. That's also how I'll do the tub.

Time-wise, the water blaster is no faster than using a sanding disk, but it does handle the deeper contours a lot better.

Looks good! I still think I'm going with the water/sand blasting service I found. He said $600.00 for the whole body and supposedly there is a rust inhibitor in the solution. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well, another busy weekend of water blasting, sanding, mixing and spraying, but as the sun went down this evening, I got the front clip all covered with 3 coats of direct to metal epoxy primer:
I'll give this time to cure while I start peeling the red paint off the tub...

I also sprayed the underside of the fenders with several coats of this rubberized coating - I will also use this stuff on the bottom of the tub and floor pan.

Ok now I'm jealous. Looks great!!!

This firewall was the one that originally came to me modified with the Ford "fruit jar" master cylinder, and the mounting bolts had been re-positioned sideways for the American style master cylinder.

I had some free time the other day, so I busted out the tools and set a pair of "up and down" oriented master cylinder bolts, and I oriented them with the 1.25" hole to hole centerline that the Protex dual circuit master cylinder (JB1419) uses:

This bolt pattern also fits the Helmar 1-inch, single circuit forklift master cylinder (Part number 46010-L6000, or MC-01084)
and since I was able to add the vertical bolts without removing the horizontal bolts used for the Ford MC, I just left them. So now, some day in the future when this Patrol needs a replacement MC again, the future owner will have a whole list of options to choose from...

There is finally some paint (albeit very little) on my 65 Patrol -

The engine compartment, and the front wheel wells are finally wearing their gray Urethane topcoat.
Do you know what a pain in the butt it is to get paint way up in here? (no comments about the runs, please. No one will ever see them up inside the wheel wells )...:
Here is the new paint, against the original gray - It's close enough to the original color for me ...

I haven't painted a car since 2003, that's what's up... I'm as rusty as the original body tub that came with this Patrol

Speaking of tubs, I have about 70% of the red paint off the tub- When that's done, I won't have any more body panels caked with red paint to deal with....

...and I will celebrate with beer.
