I drove your red one (whichever that is) and it seemed to have much longer legs than mine even though mine has taller tires. Subjective, I know. But it's got me thinking.

As Esteban pointed out elsewhere, there were no gear ratio changes through the model series. Something that did change, although as far as I know no one has ever figured out precisely how or why, was the rated horsepower. The early models were rated at 135HP, then about '65 - '66 the rating changed to 145HP.

David - are all of yours running the Pertronix ignition?

Thank you both and I'm glad Plateaucal noticed it too...though the Red 65 was not amongst that group...it too operates unlike the 63.

Yes, all four Patrols have the Rob Moore Petronix upgrade.

Maybe it is just the HP difference...if so... those 10 horses have long legs for sure.

Did the transmission gear ratio change for high gear perhaps?

Just because Rob is unaware what tail lights are correct for a '67, I'd like to take this moment to also remind everyone that the Pertronix upgrade was not his contribution to the Patrol community. It was I, me, myself that hand carried a water protect distributor to Duarte, climbed the flight of stairs to the office and delivered said distributor with a few thousand dollars to Pertronix themselves so they could make the ignition kit to begin with, and they eventually offered a kit for the non water-protect distributor as well. :snooty: Ok, so he published the 'How To' (on a non-stock distributor), whoopty doo. :obscene-buttred: I made the kit possible. Let's not forget our history. :character-oldtimer:

Ooooh, this is getting ugly  ...now we are turning on ourselves  .....Let me see..... Rob usurped River's unfailing good will. :naughty: I have saluted the wrong flag    while Plateaucal is resorted to solving all our problems with the devil's drink  :hand:

Once again Esteban has no hand in this dark winding road

What the hell are you people talking about...?

All I did was convert a distributor 7 years ago, and took the extra time to post a write up and some pictures... :ugeek:

:angry-extinguishflame:

RP definitely gets all the credit for the existence of the Pertronix kit(s) that I have installed in those 7 years. :bow-yellow:

Now THAT's debateable.... :D :D :D :D

I think you would agree that all 68's (and the holdover 68's that were sold as early 69's) came with the plastic 2-screw Koito marker and tail lights... right?

But I didn't say that ALL 67's should have the Koito lamps in order to be correct- I said that the Koito lamps started showing up on Patrol's in 67.

I have seen 67's (like Faux40's) wearing the earlier style Everwing glass lamps, and I have seen other 67's wearing the later style Koito lamps.

I present "Exhibit A" for the Jury's consideration: The beat up blue 67 Patrol in my signature below (2nd pic from the right) - That truck had the Koito 2 screw style lamps, and I am 100% certain that they had never been replaced, because the mounting screws on the backing plates had permanently rusted themselves into the fenders, and the lenses were old, fogged over, crumbly plastic that looked 30 years old; and the backing rubber was still there, and also looked 30 years old.

The 2 photos I still have of that truck were both taken in 1996, when the truck was 29 years old.... No one had ever replaced those lamps between 1967 and 1996.. I would stake my reputation as a certified car-nut on that... :D

Exhibit B is all hearsay (no photos or coraborating witness testimony), but Mr. YellowDatsun (Ryan) here in Phoenix used to own another 67 Patrol (Beige hardtop) that he purchased from the original owner and had been a garage queen its whole life, and it also had the 2-screw style lamps.
