The paint actually has some shine to it, but it's still whitish, not the blue in the poster. Just more evidence that the poster and whole Dream Garage campaign Photoshopped the Patrol blue.

While it's possible to do, it's not easy to photoshop video - and the Patrol in the video is blue!

While they could have modified the video to make it blue, it would have been easier to actually re-paint the vehicle (especially remembering this was in 96).

But why would someone bother to repaint it and make no other changes? They changed the body colour but not the black trim.

It's possible - but why?

I finally just connected with Les Cannaday of Classic Datsun Motorsports. He is the one that Nissan hired to organize the cars for the Dream Garage ad campaign. Here's the story on the Patrol for the campaign: the Patrol belonged to a friend of his, Bill. Nissan wanted to change the Patrol's color to blue, so they did the show business thing and did something called a Peelcoat, which is like a vinyl wrap. Viola! White Patrol becomes blue for pictures and film and back to white again.

Chances are pretty good that it will become part of the family here at the Patrol Farm (like I really need another Patrol... ) . My intent/hope is to return it to it's 'poster' condition. Anyone know where I can get an original soft top canvas?

Congrats, ya know that soft top is not original... I couldn't think of a better place for that patrol to be.. better than the junk yard...

The Patrol was not originally a soft top, but the canvas is an original canvas - just a bit faded and rotten.

You should definitely take it back to stock...as a hardtop

Haha Darn, I just sold the last hard top I had - drats.

If I can swing it, I would like to have the Poster Child look like this again:

It's going to need new tires. The tires in the poster are Goodyear Wrangler A/T. Does anyone have a guess as to what size they might be?

It looks like 235/75/15 (29"x9") on 8" wide rims. Look at my plow patrol. Those wheels stick out quite a bit. That mirror doesn't look original.

The next common size is 31/10.5
