I have to make a decision on an exhaust system. Boral, Flowmaster and Magnaflow have mufflers that are similar in appearance to original (based on old photos and brochure illustrations)
The FJ40 Land Cruiser forums have several discussions on these units.

Looking sharp Keith, a set of 16" splits would really set it off ;)

Nice pictures Keith.

1. BORLA® doesn't stop with unsurpassed technology. We engineer and manufacture all our exhaust products in the USA of aircraft-quality T-304 stainless steel and back our street exhaust with a Million-Mile Warranty.

2. As always, all Flowmaster mufflers and exhaust systems are developed and manufactured only in the USA. Lifetime Limited Warranty applies to Flowmaster’s stainless steel mufflers, stainless steel exhaust systems and stainless steel exhaust kits.

3. Magnaflows vid is very informative and seems they have innovations beyond the other two brands. http://www.magnaflow.com/05news/video/M ... yTour.html

I like Magnaflow. :D

Great photos, Keith, and it's looking great!!
Was looking at some other pictures while in there.

How's the windshield rubber working?

And it will be very interesting to follow your exhaust post. You'll be the guinea pig there, and we all will benefit from it.

The Mean Green El Paso machine has a Flowmaster 40 series muffler on it, and it actually sounds really nice. - Let me get it running again this weekend and I'll shoot some sound clips for you.

I've run just about every performance muffler out there at one time or another, including the 3 brands you are tossing around. Here is my feedback on each:

From a pure performance and backpressure standpoint- nothing matches Flowmaster's pressure gradient scavenging design- Nothing. The trade off is that stainless Flowmasters are expensive, and they will be the loudest (although like I said- the exhaust on my green one is hardly what I would consider "loud" at all...

Borla: My opinion is to pass - they are expensive. Not better, just more expensive. You are paying for the name.

MagnaFlow- high quality exhaust system- not too loud, but a solid performance muffler. Benefit includes stainless case construction, and a sound that is more mellow than the raspier output from a Flowmaster.

Hey Keith-

Here's a short sound clip of my green Patrol with the 2 chamber Flowmaster 40 series muffler. I shot this on Sunday morning.

Compared to this, the Magna flow makes a slightly mellower sound, not quite as "sharp" , but the tone/pitch of the exhaust note will be similar.
