Ok. Just sounded like a few mods done by a young guy in OK. He wasn't concerned with original, but kept his Patrol on the road however possible. I guess that can be good & bad. At least he drove it. Mine's been sitting 6-7 years now.

yeah, I'm not too concerned with originality either on this one, since so much of it has been hacked, and none of the serial numbers match up anyway (it's a 66 with a 62/early 63 engine in it.)

But I am concerned about safety and durability- Nothing can ruin your day faster than cruising down the road and having one of your axles fall off -- :laughing-rolling:

I do have respect for anyone who commits to keeping a 50 year old vehicle operational (by any means) - but this one had been beaten hard off-road, and that is a rough life, even for a well engineered trail rig...

I hope that the time and effort I am putting into it will prepare it for at least another decade of off road fun.

I think you are referring to Jon, of Jonx4x4 or something like that. He still has his Patrol, although it hasn't moved in years. He put a Hemi in it, drove it around the yard and parked it.

I turned off a highway onto a residential road in my 62 Chevy PU when i was a teenager to find out my rear tire was sticking out aprx 6" from the fender well. As Gomer Pile says "surprise, surprise". The pinion shaft had enough wear that the c-clip that holds the axle in slipped off into the pumpkin.
