I'm a Professional Helicopter Pilot. Been flying for bout 12 years now. I currently fly in the Gulf of Mexico and service the offshore oil industry. Previous to that I was an EMS Pilot flying people to the hospital from accidents or transfers between hospitals. I also served in the Marines for 5 years as a Jet Engine Mechanic on F/A 18 Hornets with VMFA 314 Black Knights squadron.

Safety professional/consultant -- stumbled into it many years ago. Lots of fun and OSHA is sure to provide lots of rules and regulations to keep me busy! One would think I should be all Mr. Rules, Regulations and Vehicle Airbags, but... Patrols don't have airbags, do they?

Oh yeah, Faux40 is "Mr rules and regulations..." until there's an odometer sitting in front of his face.

Then suddenly, he turns into "Well, I guess the rules are just there for everyone else to follow ..."

As for me, I work at a university as a member of the non-teaching technical staff - mainly electronics and instrumentation but really it's whatever comes in the door. Currently the major jobs in waiting are rewiring a dynamometer lab, instrumenting a prototype track cycling wheel & forks for performance evaluation, helping a group who have ambitiously entered the World Solar Challenge race, and developing hardware and software for a miniature satellite that's to be launched in 2015.

The irony is that my taste in cars is no-bells-and-whistles, electronics-free Datsuns from the '70s...

Retired Sheetmetal worker in SF Bay Area. Drew coordinated HVAC blueprints on board till CAD pushed me back into field work. Worked (and drew) on highrises,hospitals and large labs then all the Sylicone Valley stuff like IBM, Intel, Cisco Systems, Diecon and the like. Enjoyed a little SM work on the flat top glass less doors I use when toppless. You can see them to the left here. Paint mix was a tad dark...

haha you and me both... My journey away from the automotive technician world, and into the IT world, actually began with programming and flashing EPROM calibrations to manage the fuel and spark curves on GM vehicles in the early 90's.

From there, it migrated into programming and cabling custom serial test data interfaces, and the next thing I knew, I was being whisked away by Motorola to do processing automation in semiconductor wafer fabs.

haha, must be like the mechanic who drives an old bomb because they've had enough of cars by Friday arvo ! Sounds like you've had some fun jobs and seen some cool stuff - at least to this electron chaser !

Currently my title is "Training Specialist." I just recently stepped into that role about 4 months ago after spending nearly 10 years as a "street cop" working for a couple different city Police departments and the Sheriff's Office. I ran a K-9 and did a few various and exciting other assignments. My current gig has me teaching at the Academy, and I'm loving it.

Graduated from Universal Technical Institute in 1992 with an associates degree in auto/diesel repair. I was an ASE master certified automotive tech at Coconino Motors in Flagstaff Az from 1994-1997. In January 1997 I moved back to Winslow Az and opened my own auto repair shop (R&M auto) thats for Ron&Michelle-my wife for 20 years now. I closed R&M down in 2004 when I finally got hired on the BNSF railroad as a Conductor/Brakeman. In 2012 I took a promotion to Engineer, so now I drive the trains, and I love it.
