Wow, great pics! Thanks! I've got lots if 3/4" 4130 rod. I'm surprised to see a forged cross pin on the end.
I actually work for a forge shop that mfgs digging teeth for companies like Caterpillar.
And I have a 320 pickup (40 yrs now) that I hand crank when in the mood .
Yrs ago I hand- cranked it for about a yr cause I was too poor to buy starter parts .

I have a few things to add on the crank starter.

First, its dangerous. Not that I haven't done it when required and it did start quite easily - but remember that the static timing is 10 degrees BTDC which means that the spark plug fires long before the piston gets to the top. This is fine and typical for electric start vehicles, but when using the crank starter there is always the off chance that it will kick back, especially if you are slow on the cranking. Old vehicles that used crank starters had a manual spark advance that allowed you to retard the spark for safe starting to near 0deg. This manual spark advance also lived on till the 60s on motorcycles. A quick look at ebay will confirm that there are limping or hospitalized idiots out there still who will try to start a 500cc high compression single with too much advance. Smaller automobile engines you can get away with crank starting but the P engine is large displacement by comparison.

Second - the crank starter is an invaluable tool for setting valve clearances, turning the engine over after a long sitting spell to get some oil into the galleries, or gas to the carb as most of you know. And an amazing tool to prove to friends and neighbors your dedication to old-school technology.

So crank starting the Patrol is probably an emergency-only thing to do. Doable certainly and as I say I've done it, but be aware of the risks.
