You definitely need to correct this problem, i believe you have a bad ground in the dash harness. Double chech all your ground points throughout the entire dash.

Yeah, I definitely do not need a fire on this thing. I have worked too long and too hard on it to have it burnt to a crisp! I'll probably be at the shop all night going through each wire one by one. I was hoping to send it to the paint shop tomorrow... oh well, it is still too hot to drive it now anyway.

I can probably scrounge up a needle and possibly other internals for you. PM or text if interested.
Looks like no interchangeable parts (except glass and pointer between my "68as69" and my true 1969. The later construction is stamped steel, the earlier is a heavy casting.
I am in need of the mileage drum for the 69, as it's tiny internal gears are stripped.
I do not have a pre-68 speedo to know anything about them.

I haven't taken apart the speedo yet to see what all it needs. I spent all night last night in the shop going through all the wiring... What a nightmare and a half. Nothing was original, everything had some sort of bypass or extra switch added on.. I have no idea when any of that was done or who did it but I am amazed that it even ran like it was.. I'm no wiring expert by any means so I just did what I could to make it all work, and most importantly, make sure everything was grounded properly.. My multimeters batteries died in the middle of everything adding to the chaos....

It is getting there.. Had to take a break from working on it for a while.. Finally got the stupid wiring issue figured out and got it running again without catching the dash on fire... Hopefully some time this month I'll be able to dedicate some time into finishing up the body work and getting some paint on it.
