Greetings Patrolees,

BAM Automotive, Alpine TX should have Presidio Patrol finished by mid July. I asked for mid stream paint & body pictures but pictures from behind the magic curtain are very difficult to get. Still trying though. As a pre-Colorado field trial we have booked 3 night at the Cibolo Creek Ranch. One our favorite haunts in W TX. We will use the 3 days to drive the 100,000 acres of desert, hills and peaks west of the main house. If it makes it, then off to Colorado in early August for some high altitude field testing.

If The Green Machine is finished with its mechanical by Rafael by July 26th, then it will be hauled out and dropped off at BAM on the way out for a few more mechanical items, then off to body and paint with Short Man (El Choppo) in Ojinaga, MX.

Sounds like a great trip.

For those keeping track our Feb 2017 Patrol through Big Bend Ranch State Park [BBRSP](330,000 acres) starts 45 minutes south of Cibolo Creek Ranch [CCR] (see previous picture of CCR). In fact, the two touch, CCR borders a portion of the NE corner of BBRSP. A spring fed water filled canyon virtually separates the two tracts. The vertical walls are about 40 feet. The water was way over our head just off that little sand bar, then another 50 yards downstream was a 10-12' waterfall within the canyon. Better yet, here is a picture from the CCR side (north looking south). Ok, on another trip we had a couple babes in bikinis (wives so no pics) , it was not as lonely as this pic makes it look.

Next Feb we will Partrolling and camping at the south outfall of this canyon. Just in case you are interested.

I can say that the fellow providing the body and paint makeover on my Patrol in OJ MX really did contract a serious medical condition that prevented the completion of our project. I certainly don't blame him. After accessing the situation we can recover but the direction of Presidio Patrol will change. Based on the newly missing parts, damaged parts and shortage of local mechanics wanting to try to put Humpty Dumpty back together again we have decided to make Presidio Patrol (CCV4) a stripped down hunting rig.

I sanded it today. After painting it will look great from 50'! I expect it to be functional within 3 weeks. At this point no special care will be given to make it special in any way. We will try to put the extra love in The Green Machine, now named CCV5 and have something we can drive around town.

Regardless, neither Patrol would be anything if it were not for the help of the friends within the forum. Withing about 60 days I will have a good accounting of our extra parts and will post a list for those in need, like I was.

Well, I have now sanded Presidio Patrol and primed it. It trip to OJ MX must have been eventful. It was returned with 3 cracks in the windshield, some like 30 strikes from the ball end of a hammer and a missing steel plate between the battery and front seats.

It must have been one heck of a party down there. Sorry I missed it but the last time I was on the wrong side of a border town it didn't go very well so I haven't returned.

Anyway, we have the seats at the upholstery shop, windshield in various places for various things and while learning the merits of etching primer. Great stuff if you have never used it.

I think I have a mechanic coming over to assemble it next week.

Question....since all my nuts and bolts were returned in water I'm in search of any guidance on the type and sizes to use for the everything from the firewall to the beginning of the year tub.

I spoke to Van at BAM, he expressed his apologies and said he would not walk away from us. I sent him a list of issues and I hope he helps to some degree. We will see.

The refurbished gauges will now go into CCV5 and Presidio Patrol will get originals.

I have learned something else important. Presidio Patrol will likely not need a lift with 15" rims and 30" dia Cooper STT tires while CCV5 must have a 2-3" lift to fit the 16" rims with 31" ish BFG Mudd Terrains.

RiverPatrol, thank you for your kind words. I have no doubt if I was close that you and several others would pull me out of the mud.

I think you have the right idea. Get that baby back in operating condition. once that happens, you'll have momentum and other improvements will be easier. Good luck and please continue posting updates. Like my project, yours are great. 3 steps forward, one step back.. the net result is forward momentum.

As far as nuts and bolts, you might just use the ones in the bucket for reference. They are all SAE, most of the body bolts are fine thread.

Patrollers,
Presidio Patrol (CCV4) will get it's exterior painted today. For this season Nov 1-March 20 it will roll with temporary paint. The primer coloration varation is due to inconsistent textures. Next summer it will be professionally sanded and repainted.

BAM's paint shop removed the lights with a crowbar, apparently, so we are waiting on replacements from Columbia.
