Oh and didn't learn lesson the first time so drove it up to go skiing at Legges Tor/Ben Lomond national park with no chains (well, the Outback was getting something done and ain't nobody got time for snowchain safety bullsh*t) and needless to say, thank expletives there was a shuttlebus halfway up (which i knew about and was banking on).

Nah, I think it's a global condition, lol. My Datto may not have the poke of a twin-turb V8 ( nice stealth turbo setup too, btw ) but I'm still not sure I'd do it again - got caught out with the road below the snowline being closed and only one other option with the fuel I had in the tank. Knew I was headed for trouble when the snowclearer passed me going the other way...
On that note ( without totally hijacking the thread ) on subsequent snow trips I've seen tourists from the subcontinent come to grief in a rental Commodore with no chains, and a guy in a WRX STi getting his car winched 20m up a near vertical slope next to the road ( "a roo jumped out in front of me"...yeah right, roos aren't real bright but they know enough not to hang out at 1500m in sub-zero conditions ).
Back to Patrols - the 3rd generation connection to that Patrol of yours is priceless...love it.

River, I Haven't been to the states, would love to get over (a NY up to Maine, along the border, over to the North West and sort of zig zag down to Cali roadtrip) but I assume you guys are as prone to doing amusing stupid (good combination) shit without an awful lot of precognition as everyone else that's into cars and camping!
Johnny, cheers mate, keen to get it all there just in a bit of flux as to the when with getting it all sorted and organising a couple weeks for the roadtrip down between and around organising work. And heh, not the fist time I've heard a "roo came from nowhere line!"
