Re: Lake City, Colorado
Patrols at Work and Play,
CCV7 was handy. While Presidio Patrol enjoyed a loop around the lake.
Rene has determined CCV7 suffered a vapor lock so it might be worthy. Mountain sorte planned for Thursday.
Several offers for Presidio Patrol were received by Rene while the exhaust manifold was being replaced.
Patrolling again,

What does your wife have to say about this lovely lady, or should we keep it to ourselves?L60Boerne wrote:Patrols at Work and Play,

Re: Lake City, Colorado
Well, if you promise to keep your Patrol's, I will come up some weekend and drop my whole lot of fine spare parts in that barn. I am shortly back into building an old Saab and need the room anyway.L60Boerne wrote:Greetings Patrollees Worldwide,
Nature and machine prevented our Alpine Loop ascent to the top of the Rockies. It was a blessing as I was way overbooked. Both Patrols were unfit or unsafe.
Presidio Patrol gets out of ready with a wrench Rene's Garage today. Command and Control Vehicle 7 goes in when we leave.
In the meantime, all the great parts amassed have been organized and stored in their Lake City crib.
Someday we will get back on the trail, maybe this weekend with Plateaucal.
Patrolling when possible,

If you come over....we will take CCV7 to 13'000 ft. But I'm not going down alone! 11,500 was no prob today.

Plateaucal, we will try them both, you can drive Presidio Patrol. One of us will surely make it.

Re: Lake City, Colorado
Plateaucal, Presidio Patrol needs a new transmission or something. You can't shift it without the gears grumbling and grinding. It is going back to Rene. No way is it Loop worthy.
I drove The Loop a few days ago in my diesel Jeep. CCV7 can make it except for the brakes, though power really bleeds off above 11,500', but it would make it. However, braking on the loop is a necessity due to the volume of traffic. After just a little bit of use the brakes will not hold. I have considered a REALLY SLOW ascent which would allow the brakes to cool off. However, you can't allows predict when that stop and hold will be required.
Disk brakes would be much better but I can't tell if disk brakes have ever been perfected within the forum. Many good attempts then they fade away.....hopefully not off a cliff somewhere.
Bottom line, neither is Loop worthy, but I'll keep trying over the winter.
Patrolling in paradise,
