60Patrol

On 5/26/26 we took it on its first drive since who knows when. It was last tagged in 2000. Since I had adjusted my right rear brake too loose. It pushed the piston out of the wheel cylinder on the first time I tried to stop. We just rode slowly around the neighborhood then back into the garage it went. The alternator was still making the sound as shaking a box of rocks. But it was still charging.

To fix the alternator. I fixed it like I do with all my vehicles…I put a GM 1 wire on.

Someday I would like to put new bearings in the original alternator so I decided to leave all the factory wires for it intact and not to cut up the factory mount.

Luckily it was a very easy install. I simply cut a slot in the gm alt and put a 5/8 pulley on it. I was even able to use the stock size belt.

Easy. Now charging almost to 14volts and no more terrible noises. I ran the wire right to the starter where the main battery cable and power wire go.

So after the alternator and taking the right rear brake apart and re adjusting it as good as I could with the messed up adjuster. We took it for another ride around town. Went around the park and as I would make left turns I heard a bad creak sound. I was hoping it was just the springs but as I turned more I could hear it was from a hub. We drove a little further and my wife saw the tamale lady at the park so I pulled in there. While she got us some burritos I walked around checking it over and the front left hub was HOT!. I found my creak. Overtight bearing maybe. Also found the right rear brake drum hotter than the rest. Also have a coolant leak that I think is coming from the back of the waterpump.

So back home and into the garage it goes again.

I have not had time to mess with it. But I want to repack the front bearings. When we had the front apart before I only packed the outside since I did not have new bearing seals.

So that is where I am now. I have tried to find front hub bearing seals on the list but cant find any. Does anyone know a part number I can find for the seals?

Also the waterpump leak. I will pull it off I think it is leaking from the back plate, not the bearing. I hope its the seal between it and the engine. If it is I suppose I will use silicone unless I can find the proper gasket. Any line on where to find one of those?

Then onto the back brake. I think I need to find another adjuster. My friend ground on it to make the ford shoe fit and now it has no adjustment on the back side.

There used to be a front axle kit available on eBay but I don't find it listed any longer. I might have some of the seals. PM me if you're interested.

Good luck on the rear adjuster. I know someone that did the disk conversion, he might have the old parts still.

Thank you riverpatrol. I might try to pull my old seals and see if I can take it into the parts place and see if they can measure and cross something. They are pretty good at stuff like that. If they cant come up with something then yes I am interested in the seals you have.

Thank you on the link to the backing plate. Hope i can get it fixed one way or the other.

I have one idea on my adjuster before I throw it in the scrap pile.

Now I just need time again to work on it.
