actually i have a question...i wanna leak test the tank, but dont want to use water, because then obviously the metal will start rusting already. Gasoline is obviously too expensive to waste on a leak test. Does anyone have any suggestions? I might try to pressurize the tank with air instead, but then id have to make blocking plates for the big holes and such. hmm....

You could etch and seal the inside, which would allow you to leak-test with water, AND would offer the additional benefit of longer overall lifespan for the tank...

Get some plumbers plugs for the big holes as shown in the link above. Pressurize with air...careful though. Use a hand pump to about 2 psi I would guess. . Install a low pressure gauge maybe with 0.1 psi increments.Then soap and water looking for bubbles. Let sit overnight to see if pressure drops. Keep in mind that temperature fluctuation may change pressure reading.

well the tank is almost done. I have one small leak at the drain plug I put in. I want to "do it right" and empty the tank, take the tank back out, and re-weld around the drain plug nut. Until then, here are some pictures:

the barb fittings I found on ebay, they are 3/8", and apparently made for soda dispenser machines! whatever works, right?
