Sorry but I haven't figured out how to rotate the pictures yet.

The pictures should be rotating automatically. It did when it was tested. Maybe I undid something trying to fix something else.

EDIT: I just re-tested. It's working fine for me. What device are you using to post the pictures?

Android phone. Oh well, It's fine like that.

I didn't have an Android to test with. So what I did just do is add a feature. When you download the attachment image there is a little rotation symbol next to the filename. This will allow you to rotate the image before posting it.

Test: And it worked, I was able to rotate it! Great feature River, thanks!!

Getting ready to go work on the Patrol this coming Monday. Work for Monday is to reinstall the oil filter assembly, and install one of the rebuilt fuel pumps. (The diaphragm went bad in the pump that was on the Patrol, and put a bunch of gas into the crankcase. That's been drained out, and when the rebuilt fuel pump and filter assembly are installed, the oil will go back in and I'll pull the distributor and prime the oil system again before restarting, let it run a while, and then dump the oil again.)

So, today I was cleaning up the oil filter components to be able to pre-assemble the filter and thus just bolt it onto the block. Using a new Nissan filter assembly:
Note that there are three (3) o-rings or seals included with the filter. The large one is the body-to-base gasket, and seems to fit fine:
The next largest one is for the combination bolt/oil flow tube that goes down the middle of the filter, and it seals the head of the bolt to the body of the filter; it fits fine also, and stands proud about 1/16" to allow some good compression:
The last seal is kind of a weird one, it has a 'taper' or 'chamfer' on it: The only piece left that has an o-ring or seal in it.......the spring seat that sits on top of the filter element. The seal seals to the bolt/oil flow tube: But the third seal provided with the filter doesn't look quite as 'thick' as the one inside the spring seat (sorry for the lousy picture): The original seal in this spring seat was sealing pretty well (well enough that it didn't slide off the bolt/oil tube without some persuasion. Tried to 'carefully' get the seal out, but didn't think I could without damaging it.

So, here is the question: Does anyone remember what this seal in the spring seat looks like? Is the one seal that is left, the one with the taper, the correct seal for this piece?

Maybe someone has a parts filter that they don't mind pulling the seal out of to see what it looks like? Thanks in advance for any input!

A little cleanup first. In the previous post I asked a question about the seal in the Nissan filter. Turns out it is identical to the seal that was in my filter assembly, and fit fine.

So, now an update. It's been a while, I know, but I"ve been focused a lot more on two of the Studebakers this summer. But there has been a small amount work on the Patrol. Assembled the oil filter, made a new gasket, and installed that. One of the two rebuilt fuel pumps was also installed. Not sure If I reported what happened related to the fuel pump that was on the Patrol -- the diaphragm failed and filled up the engine with gasoline. Drained the oil and gas mixture, refilled it with oil, and then went thru the whole priming the oil system procedure before starting it again. Started it up today, oil pressure is fine, and no odd noises from the engine (thank you Lord!).

Earlier this summer I took the front bumper and had it sandblasted and primed. Did some straightening (no where near perfect, but this Patrol is far from perfect) on it, and then painted it. Got it back on a few weeks ago. Sorry, forgot to take a picture, but it looks good. Still have to put the new North Carolina State Wolfpack license plate on it, like was on the Patrol in the '70s.

Big news is that the Patrol actually got driven today! Took it down a long rutted dirt driveway going down to my Mom's neighbor's house which is way back in the woods. Seemed to do well, clutch is fine, shifted like always. Brakes seem to work well, but will need to find a good flat & straight dirt road to do some testing and tweaking on the brake adjustments to get them just right. (Used to be plenty of dirt roads in the area when I was growing up, but most of them have been paved now. )

Next trip to my Mom's, the plan is to pull the carb, intake/exhaust manifolds, and the exhaust head pipe (down pipe?) off. There is an exhaust leak at one of the exhaust ports, the carb needs rebuilding bad, and I want to make a new exhaust head pipe (duplicate of the original).

A project for the winter will be to get the original tires off the Patrol wheels (except for the spare tire, it has never been used), polish the paint on the wheels, and get some new tires put on. Had settled on what tires I wanted to use, but now find they are no longer available. <sigh>

Hey Paul, I was looking at those fuel pumps. Nice! I've had them do some for me too before Eddie. Install them both and you would have the first double pumper Patrol!
