Phoenix Patrol has an after market radiator cap. It is not tight fitting. If anyone has one I'd sure be interested in buying one.

It is with great relief that I can report I solved my temperature sensor/gauge issue.

I had five sending units in inventory. Four that required the retaining collar, one that had the nut formed with the sensor.

Over the last two weeks we tried the four newest sensors including the last new old stock sensor on earth sent over from RiverPatrol, the two new replacements Justin discovered, then one old one with the screw stuck in it.

I only had four when we started trouble shooting this issue. Over ten days of gentle soaking I finally got the screw out of the old one so I had two with a screw and the two new Nissan replacements that required slight modifications. After two weeks non of the four would move the needle off cold but the needle did move as the key was turned on so I really feltvmy gauge was good.

Eventually after four sensors including the new oem from River I'd given up and started looking for a new cluster.

While checking my inventory shelf I found a 5th sensor.

It was an old one but missing the screw to hold the lead on...but I had two screws. I found the screw from the sensor obtained from RiverPatrol fit. This sensor was different in two ways; longer and integral nut.

Well, I drained the fluid for a 5th time yesterday while we worked on replacing the front bushings.

Now, the reason we went to the trouble is because.......this particular sensor was 1/2" longer than the others and the nut was formed into the sensor.

So we put it in and fixed a crimped hose installed by Eddy the Eagle and started it up. It worked perfectly! I am so thankful for that. Now if APT will ever send the fuel gauge back Plateaucal gave me Phoenix Patrol will have a perfectly working gauge cluster.

Lastly, after all that success we installed the door stops 50Car made for me. Love those. He is quite a resource like so many on the forum that tirelessly help us that need it so often.

Phoenix Patrol heads to Lake City next week where hopefully Ready with the Wrench Rene has a rebuilt VC42 ready for it.

Awesome that you got it working after such diligence! Odd that the other sensors didn't work. Perhaps it might have been a grounding issue?

Yeah sounds like a "wiring" issue like a ground.....

Justin, We kinda came the same conclusion around here. Perhaps the collar was not providing a solid enough ground but the sensor with the nut formed into it did.

I just returned from our annual dove hunt down on the border. It was awesome as always.

I will be leaving in the morning to go north and drive Santa's Sleigh with the replacement oil pan from 50Car then coming right back after a few days in the field to load Phoenix Patrol for trip to Lake City via Dallas.

Just a note to say that Phoenix Patrol went into Rene's Garage today to get sidesteps made by Ron L. and a VC 42 carb. I still can't believe Chris got it around The Loop with that failing Rochester.

This starts the race to get things perfect for our fall Loop re-deaux! Who is in?
