FYI,
The lens diffuser is similar (but smaller in diameter) than the one on the Datsun Z car. The Datsun Z car lens will fit
will fit the Patrol inspection lamp housing, but a bit a packing material may be required to keep the lens in place.

The diffuser I have in my 1969 Patrol is made of glass, the Datsun Z diffuser is plastic. I will have to post a photo of the Datsun Z housing, the mounting bracket is different. Also, the switch on Patrol unit has a metal toggle and base while the Datsun Z is plastic.
The Patrol seems to be based on the standard "inch" system while the Datsun Z is based on the metric metric system. Perhaps this accounts for some of the difference in specifications.

My experience is different groups designing different products and no communication between the two groups.
The larger one was designed 1st and was a little too big for the desired look of the 2nd application.
Then there are the styling people that demand the slight difference will make sales that much better.

can you tell me if I am missing a part?
I would think there would be some type of bezel/trim piece covering the base of the lens. I
can see the tabs that hold the glass and the rubber underneath. I would think that would have a cleaner design, especially being on the dash?

There is a thin plastic/translucent film that seats to the base of the housing - acts as an heat insulator (sandwiched between the black washer and the housing)
There is a thin black rubber washer that adds pressure to beep the lens in place (sandwiched between the plastic/translucent film and the lens).
