All,

House reno in full swng. Foundations start on 8th April, still removing rear concrete balcony. Had trees cut down this week. Hired an excavator last weekend to move concrete. Need to finish this weekend so can mark out footings and plumbin next weekend, before Monday.

So busy with James,paid work, house reno, web time ? what is that. G60 is working hard as a oversize wheelbarrow.

Hi all,

House reno is my life, spent all 4 day long weekend working. Sleeping was hard as every muscle ached and just plain hurt.

Any how needed everything gone for this weekend to mark teh footings out, dig up my sewer connection, as footings were starting next monday. As it turns out under the last section of slab I have a asbestos (fibro) dump site. Have to wait now untill next Wednesday to get that removed at a bonus expense of $2100 GREAT

So this week have now had to move excavators, concretor, steel delivery, waterboard inspector, council inspector, engineer, triple call, coordinate time slots and all that jaz. In short now asbestos cleanup on Wednesday, Excatvators Thursday / friday. Concretors monday tuesday.

Oversize Wheelbarrow


Workhorse pulling slab off, I had actually cut teh small peice, but as it was about 150mm thick, pulled teh whole slab off. Surprise all the rubble is fibro/ beer cans/ dirt x 4 layers.


Has now been raining last 2 days and my whole yard is mud, welcome to construction. need to now build a front fence as just to hard letting Winston in the rear yard. Another job I dont need.

Asbestosis is not good. I see some asbestos here and there mostly in 1940's exterior home siding tiles. We just hold our breath and get to it!............. NOT!
We also call a hazmat (hazardous materials) team to remove and dump and it is costly. I would make sure by searching if in fact the material claimed to be asbestos is that. Sometimes materials can be "misunderstood". Sorry that crap came up, this is how construction goes here.....always 20-30% more than the first projection. Construction workers leaving beercans in the mix? Typical.....I like beer but thats fickin lowdog maneuvers.
Speaking of Highdogs, hows the pooch? How about a temp fence in the frontyard while doing the remodel.? Pound some 4-6 foot steel stakes in and use some metal wire fencing just wired to the stakes.

Fibro (Bonded Asbestos sheeting) was huge here in Oz, neighbours home is fibro can see it in the 2nd photo.

Was still being produced up to mid 80's. beer cans are 70's or early 80's. Would say a lean-to extension was removed all fibro and replaced with the brick skillion extension . Was common for rubble to buried in yards, was the done thing back then and fibro was legal and nothing wrong with it.

Just itching to get the foundations in before winter rains start, FYI started this week.

Was mapping out my ideas to fence in teh front yard with fencing materials I already have, old rear balcony fence will go above front brick fence, my existing weld mesh sheeting will border the driveway, old side gate will fit in front gate spot. Will work and not to much hassle, but will take half day with stuffing around.

My biggest issue will be marking out the foundations this weekend as the Abestos removal guys will trash my markings on Wednesday, before excatvators arrive Thursday. I will still mark out on the weekend and also bury some stakes at soil level so can remark quickly when they finish I think.

Worked untill 11pm setting up hurdles and string lines, squaring it all up last night. Today the abestos was removed, steel delivered, then started marking out all the internall walls for footings. Ferdy turned up to help and we took all afternoon loading HP with at least 2 ton (kg) of bricks and marking all breick piers and other things. I then cleared the site and down at 6:30pm

Excavators arrive tomorrow at 7am to start digging all footings, earth removed on Friday, steelwork goes in Monday, concrete arranged for Tuesday 8am. 16m3 of the stuff. Busy busy busy

Busted sewer connection, temp fix but will need moving as through two brick pier bases
