60Patrol

Finally finished up all the body work and got to painting it. Went with like an army green color... original I know. Left the roof alone for now, I am going to paint that tan and maybe a few other things tan as well to accent and break up the colors. Waiting on the Tan paint to come in so that i can get that done...
Also need to find a way to get the side sliding glass mounted in. I know Flagg said there is a VW rubber gasket that will work, anyone have any idea what year/model trim that is???

I am also still looking for a speedo / cable and a few other misc parts.

There was a group buy for the rear window rubber -- There may be some extra's out there. I don't think, there is a good substitute though.

As for the speedo cable, I picked one up that works well. It's a touch longer than the stock one, but it works well. The info is here: http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic ... 901#p22901

Seems like there has already been a group buy for everything I need and everyone who had extras just got rid of the last one.. Just my luck.. I might just take it to the glass shop and let them sort it out like I did with the windshield.. Originally I was going to order 2 FJ40 windshield gaskets since one isn't long enough and splice them together yada yada.. Said screw that and gave it to the glass guy and he had it done the next day, and saved me a headache. It doesn't fit exactly like the original, but then again I'm not going for some high dollar numbers matching restoration either. Just want it to run and drive and have the necessities function as they should.

I'm so close to having this thing "Done", and yet so far. "Done" is relative I suppose.

Any day that a Patrol gets new paint is a good day.

Just so nobody else looks for a VW substitute...that substitute was for the fixed glass in the rear barn-doors, not the sliding side windows.
The VW rubber I used (which was a fight to install) looks great. It is for early 70s beetle, non-oem, without the groove for the decorative trim piece. Ordered from Airhead VW in Ventura, CA. One less-than-$20 rubber will stretch to make two Patrol seals.
Finally finished assembling and installing my rear doors last weekend...much tostier now! Some PO had installed an auxiliary heater onto the front wall of the cargo area. I know it's non-stock, but it was nicely installed, and could be easily removed if not wanted.
I've heard some Toyotas had an optional heater in the rear.
Anybody else have a heater in the back of their Patrol?

Thanks for clearing that up Bill! There has got to be some rubber seal out there that will work for the sliding glass windows though. There has to be!

The panels did come out pretty straight, I was impressed. I spent a ton of hours working on the body and I thought it looked pretty good but you never really know until you have the paint laid down. The back panel came out OK where I had to patch in all new sheet metal where the rust had destroyed. Luckily the spare tire will cover up any imperfections there, but even then... it shouldn't be too bad..

Hopefully I'll have it finished with paint this weekend, then I can focus on getting the rest of the windows in. Thanks again for the sliders Bill! I got a speedometer locked down from 250G60 and a speedo cable on the way as well as some tail lights courtesy of Amazon.. Still need to drop the tank and assess that situation (keeps clogging fuel filters) and do some brake work...I got most of the electrical sorted on it. We're getting close, I can taste it!

The only rubber that will work for the side sliders is the one that comes from the group buy occasionally. There was one on eBay a couple of weeks ago.

Mike at Datsunlandsocal will have this rubber available sometime. He is in the process of having various weather strip made up now, and that is one he will include.
