Early Patrols, up to mid-66 the hand throttle was an option. x2 64 Patrols at my place never had the hand throttle and lack the provisions to even install it. In addition to this hand throttle was located to the left of the steering column up to 67 and in 68 they started being mounted rhs of the column.
Heater cores changed at some point, mid-66 is my guess as that is the biggest change year besides 68. Heater core outlet pipes are narrower on some cores. This means not all the cores will match up to all the heater boxes.

MY only guess will be that the sleeve where the dipstick is inserted has different lengths, and/or inclination.
