Thanks for the reassurances guys. I pulled both fuel filters and they both had crud in them. I replaced them and after buttoning the distributor back up the engine fired right up and ran well. I then was able to set the timing. As you remarked Esteban, it had been set without a timing light at about 20 degrees advanced. Even took her up the road AND back with no issues. Hopefully, it was just the filters. She hasn't earned my trust yet though!
