As of right now the parts patrol is pretty much just a frame sitting on jackstands with the engine and tranny ready to be plucked. I will get to that soon. Right now the priority is to get my new frame, and a friends land cruiser frame(s) ready for galvanizing.
I spent last night making space in my buddies shop for this all to happen. We then dragged the new frame inside for welding. Luckily, Chris gave me the tab he cut off with the frame, so it was easy work. The frame has been sitting outside for almost a year since I drove it home to the east coast from Vegas. I am motivated seeing it start to go to good use. The frames on my patrols were junk.
I am also told my Alcan Springs will be finished on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. This is great news!
I had some new U bolts made up locally, which I will receive early next week as well. I just need to decide on how to coat them. Made from 1/2" rod, 3" and 3.5" ID for the various sizes on the axles, and about 6.5" long
I had tossed around the idea of using FJ40 shackles, as the dimensions looked similar when comparing to the FJ40 in the shop. However, the FJ40's are much wider, and then pins supplied would be too long. I have decided to refinish the original shackles and ordered new 5/8 x 4" bolts with grease fittings from currie. Part # CE-91108.
Well I have been quiet on here, time to post some pics.
Here are the frames freshly galvanized. you can one from my patrol, another from my buddy Nick's 69 FJ40, and Nick's FJ60 frame as well. The FJ60 frame needs more work before it is restored. The new tacoma is getting put to work!
Next, the parts truck had to come out of the shop so I had room to work on the new frame. The drivetrain was saved, and the frame was scrapped along with some body panels that were toast.
I then strapped both the patrol engine as well as the FJ40 engine to the trailer and brough them to the car wash to power wash after applying some oven cleaner to strip off paint, etc.
Here you can see the frame sitting on new Alcan springs. The Axles have not been touched. I was simply in a race to get a roller put together for our upcomming move from Maryland back to Massachusetts.
