60Patrol

I would like to get rebuild kit for Hitachi Carb and many more after I get the carb rebuilt.How do we do this ordering the parts and such.

The Hitachi rebuild kit was brought up about this time last year. A member posted that he could get the kits in Venezuela. I emailed him but didn't get a response. FYI, I have a 69 L60 that had an original Hitachi carb.  I looked everywhere for a rebuild kit with no luck.  I tried Autoline in Minneapolis and Winnipeg with no luck. Finally I called Carbsonly in Burbank, California and they set me up with a Rochester that came on later patrols.  Model #7015013 for $118.60.  Works like a dream and mounts right on with no modifications aside from rigging a new choke attachment.  I couldn't be happier and the patrol purrs like a kitten.  If interested call Ken Coleman at 818-845-9000 and tell him what you need.  I had the carb in a week!   Anyone have ideas on welding new front floor panels or where to get some replacements? Mine are toast.  

well...glad you like the Rochester. Most of us already have one as they are on 80% of the USA Patrols I have seen. I have had this carb on 3 of my P-trolls and it sucked badly. It worked great around town but off road it failed horribly. Anything over 30% grade and the carb either starves for fuel or is drowning from to much fuel. This is in the carb and not the fuel pump too...it is simple the thing is not good for off roading and I doubt it was designed for this. The stock Hitachi si a touch better but has the same problems. A specific Carter carb will bolt on and parts are available but it suppers from the same thing. Plus after rebuilding my last Rochester twice it still would not hold adajustment and idel jumped around, mixture also changed on it's own plus the float level was whacked. Now if you want a REAL carb and one that won't fail you when you need it most then I suggest going with a Weber 2 barrel. With an adaptor plate this Weber will bolt on and is designed for off roading....it is also designed for an inline 6 engine. It gives a power increase also....yet it costs 5 times what your Rochester cost. So it depends on your needs and cash. FYI, any carb will go on the Patrol with a custom adaptor plate so we are not limited to the Hitachi or Rochesters....

Oh yea...sorry forgot your last question. You have a few choices for floor pans. First, have some made that will not match stock very close from my experience. maybe the right person can fab them but pretty hard to do with out major machining equiptment. Next option, find a parts rig with good floor pans and reuse them on your truck, also tuff as most parts rig have shot floor pans or at least rusty ones. last option is that I can get brand new floor pans. Matter of fact I can get any body parts but the larger ones not happening yet due to shipping. Floor pans, seat frame, door post and similar are no problem though. I got a set of floor pans and seat frame new for my 64 ragtop under resto and they are great! these will cost you $100 plus shipping from over seas.....let me know if you want a set. Thanks,   Ian

Thanks for the info Ian.  I will get back to you on the floor pans. I am actually thinking about welding some custom pans.....may be from some diamond plate steel or something like that.  We will see how the carb works over time....I am just happy she is breathing smoothly again!  I forgot the power the old Paaatttrroolll has!! Yeaha!

The Rochester on my Patrol ran at some pretty crazy angles Sunday. So crazy that my front leaf springs were scraping on the descent.I think that as along as they are in good shape, they will serve you fine!

IE: When salvage yardin for a good carb, make sure the shafts holding the butterfly valves and such dont have alot of play in them.That is what my mechanic friend told me, anyways. I heed his advice...
