Ok, I don't think my Oil dip stick is correct for this vehicle. I have the correct amount of oil in my patrol but the dip stick reads way over full.
Any one have a pic of a stock dip stick, With a ruler or tape measure in the pick???

That is definitely stock and gauges correctly.....not cut or altered.

Did you do an oil change? How much oil did you add. Did you replace the filter? How big is the dent in the pan.

I did do oil change, 10 pints or 5 quarts per the service spec I found on this site. also i did change filter. Had trouble getting it sealed so I changed oil again un willingly! ha.
The oil always registers way above the full line on the dip stick. Thed dent is in the bottom end on one side mostly. near the drain plug. I would say it at the deppest part of the dent is 1 1/2" deep. I did see a spec for 12 pints too but I think we are dealing witht the later Model... I think.

1 1/2" deep? that is a lot and could account for some change. I recall replacing with 5 1/2 quarts.
Highly unlikely but is the tube for the dipstick cut? It should have a flare and the very edge is tapered.

They did not cut it but I was searching for a reason why your oil mark is high.

Yes, it's most likely the dent. It doesn't take much for the dipstick reading to be off. You can be 1/2 quart over full and it's pretty high on the stick.

A tip when changing the oil filter: before you put the large round o'ring on the filter base make sure to remove the old one (or two) first. It's not uncommon for a previous monkey to leave the old one there and just tighten the heck out of the canister cover to try and keep it from leaking. Those are usually the same monkeys that neglect to reinstall the spring and the cup over the oil filter.
