Re: 65 Patrol Rebuild Starts Here

Greetings, We hashed and thrashed for another six hours today but never could understand the wiring enough to get the dash gauges in.

The motor runs smooth, the brake pedal is very sticky. But that might be addressed, at least the we know where to start, I'm sure it involves rebuilding the BMC.

However we are stumped at the fact the motor starts quickly and runs smooth.......but after about 45 seconds fuel seeps from bottom of the carburetor bowl and column/pipe that leads to motor. Oh...and can anyone identify the carb?

Any help would be appreciated.

Isn't that the basic 1bbl Rochester carb?

Thanks, Faux40 I had looked at the carb manual RiverPatrol published on the Rochester carb...but little differences have sent me down a goose trail several times already on this project so now I'm a mule. I look before I jump so confirmation from the forum was needed.

To date I've tried learn everything I can about the Hitachi and we successfully got it rebuilt in Ft. Worth. Bow, I will focus on the Rochester B.

Thanks again,

It is a Rochester, but not the exact same as the original Patrol Rochester. The Patrol carb doesn't have the dash pot for the choke that this one does.

Thanks RiverPatrol, I too thought it was close but no cigar. Which isn't surprising given its 50 years on patrol. I have an ole salt looking it over, he deals in vintage cars and he felt he could run it down.
Patrolling soon,

Greetings, Presidio Patrol is getting close. After wiring the dash while replacing the burned wiring we tried to attach the hood.
Two last issues:
Hood Bracket- As the picture shows I am missing the hood mounting bracket. I guess BAM lost those as well.
So, I plead. Does anyone have the missing brackets?

Choke- Does anyone have a picture of the correct routing for the choke cable?

Patrolling soon,
L60Boerne

FYI, I dropped the original rusty and frozen OEM windshield wiper motors off at Chasco in SA today. If he can restore those he can get anything back in service.

Greetings, Given fuel leaking down on the manifold was deemed unsafe we endeavored to rebuild the carb on Presidio Patrol. The mechanic determined it was a GM carb. They seem to be fine with rebuilding it. It returns tomorrow.

Does anyone have any field experience with these? I need to know if they have any bad habits.

Almost Patrolling,

They tend to stall on a sudden steep uphill incline, in my experience.
