1967 Patrol frame off restoration - light

These axles from the 67 are in very good condition. After cleaning out sand from the housings, polishing the knuckle balls to 600g and sanding the housings they are ready for paint. I will be converting the top knuckle cap which is a brass/bronze bushing set up to the newer cap with bearing. Why not, I have all the parts and I believe it is a bit of a stronger design than the older style.

I switch to the bearing cap on top in the early 80s, since there were no spares for the other. In a way better, since the bronze bushing has the compression disks, the wear that they develop is less noticeable than with the bearing caps. But the wear is there, and when you realize, it's too late. My guess is that those brass bushings are unobtanium right now. They do take many, many miles to wear.

Are you using the caps from a donor or were you able to source new ones?

When I looked at the Properties for a few of the 'missing' images, the path seems to indicate that they were uploaded to the 60Patrol gallery. Here is the path on one of them:

This project is actually nearing completion - I'm the owner. RMP&O was working on it in Jackson Hole. Ian had to close his shop on short notice unfortunately and I believe he is out of the country. He must have discontinued his externally hosted photo gallery so the photos are gone but there's still some good commentary here. I do have lots of photos that he sent me via email along the way fortunately.

The truck is now in Casper, WY with Sand Creek Restorations who will finish up. Ian finished the frame and drive train and delivered everything to Sand Creek end of December 2016. They are doing all the body, paint and interior work and assembly. I'm going to try to post some pics on this thread with a few comments so you all can see how the project ends up. Hoping for completion by this summer.

Thanks! I'm sure everyone here would love to know the status and progress on this drool worthy restoration. It's like watching a riveting movie, then the power goes out and you never get to know how it ended.
