My 65 uses the 3-1/2” bezel with red glass at the rear. I installed them from new old stock that I had a couple of years ago.

Have some downtime on our trip (wife is taking a nap ) and decided to surf a little for tires for the Patrol. Wheels are stock 16" one piece. Don't want to put the original 'military' style tires back on it, looking more for a old school mud and snow bias ply tire. Also don't want to pay the high prices for Coker tires (not going into why on that one). Wanting some advice from you experienced Patrol owners/drivers.

This seems like a pretty heavy tire though -- 10 ply!

Am I barking up the wrong tree with bias ply tires? Should I be looking at radials? There is a recapper in Nashville TN that has some pretty agressive treads on new radial casings:

One concern I have with radials is that it's hard to find a tall tire for narrow rims like the Patrol has. The bias ply are usually taller. I don't want a short (squat) tire, I don't think they would look right on the Patrol.

I'm just unsure of which way to go. The Patrol will be used around town and for light offroading. Any and all advice is welcomed.

Radial tires will always be safer and better overall

He's running 215/85R16 Thunderer Ranger ATR

Since I'm running aftermarket 15" wheels, I found some alternatives to the ones Robert used, and chose 235/75R15. I've been very happy with them, and they look the part. They are 10 ply as well, but you don't feel them stiff at all.

Esteban, thank you for the response and for the links! Spent a good bit of time studying the info and looking at available 235-85R16 tires. Pretty good selection available. Honestly was surprised at how good those tires look on moore_rb's Patrol, and they are only 215's. I looked for some pics of your Patrol with the 235-15's but couldn't find one.

Hoping the 235-85R16s would look good on my Patrol. I'll have to do some measuring of the recapped rears that are on it now on stock wheels. They are a snow/mud type and are fairly tall which is what I'm going for. By measuring the current rears, I'll also be able to make sure the 235s will fit in the rear wheel wells. It will be a couple of weeks until I can get back to the Patrol though.

Sorry for the lack of pictures. I'm a procrastinator in that department here at the forum. Definitely had to start one thread about mine.

Here's a picture just before I moved out of Virginia. A rainy day. I had to lighten it since it was impossible to see any detail of the tires. This are 235/75R15 Thunderer Ranger ATR.
I'm sure the 235/85R16 will fit perfectly with the original wheels. Just for you to get an idea, my wheels have the following spec:
Nomad I Wheel
Size: 15'' x 7''
Bolt Pattern: 6 x 5-1/2''
Rear Spacing: 4-1/2''
Offset: +13mm

They clear the rear fender perfectly.

Just for curiosity, I checked at Jegs the current price of the wheels, and in 2 years they have gone up 50%

Love the soft top on your Patrol. Did you source it from the gentleman in Columbia? I hate that he lost his canvas guy, since I sure had planned on getting a new top for mine .

That canvas top was made while I was still in Ecuador, in 2001. It was the 7th time I've changed the top, with the last 4 times, locally made by an upholstery guy. I brought the material with me from a trip to Houston. This material is called Cambria (I kept the original invoice). It's not canvas and meant to be used in simulated canvas tops over the metal roof in cars. It has been outstanding in durability. I hope I can source it again! (with the name I'm not getting any meaningful results on the internet)

I've wondered what happen with member rrodriguezsal. He's not been around since March 2021.
