Been having some trouble with my temp and fuel gauges. Rummaging around I read the post with the link to a ratsun thread that discussed using an electronic voltage regulator to replace the electromechanical version. Parts were ordered weeks ago. Parts were MIA for weeks. Found them this morning, looking for something else, of course. Here's what I did today:
Removed the stock gauge regulator from under the driver's side dash.

Opened up the regulator housing by carefully bending back the six small metal tabs that hold the phoenelic board inside the the metal housing.

Cut off the regulator spring at the output terminal. New regulator and optional capacitors shown on right.

Carefully unwind some wire to connect to the center ground terminal on the new regulator. Clean the input and output terminals on the phoenelic board so the new regulator terminals can be soldered to them.

Carefully bend the leads of the regulator as shown. Drill a 1/8" hole in the phoenelic board. Pop rivet the regulator to the board and solder the input, output and ground terminals as shown.

Reassembled, tested with a Dewalt drill battery as an input voltage 18vdc then installed in Ducky.
Temp and Fuel gauges working properly!!!
