Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
This is not as simple as one can think. The brake light, since it's the same as a turn signal one, is routed through the turn signal switch the problem could be there.
I'm not at home to look at the diagram and also to post how the different connections or combinations work at the turn signal switch. Will do it tomorrow.
Could be as simple as cleaning the internal contacts at the switch

No limit, sometimes we just need a kick in the butt to get us going.
The brake lights do indeed run through the turn signal switch as Esteban said and you implied. But there are other more likely places to look. First check the fuse for the brake lights, and make sure you are getting power to/from it on both sides of the fuse block. Then check that you are getting power through the brake light switch, or short the wires together at the switch and see if that makes the lights come on. And check the GY (green yellow) and WR (white red) wires at the turn signal switch for power. Brake lights are usually pretty easy to diagnose and repair, as long as the wiring hasn't been messed with.
I'm not sure which wiring diagram you are using, but there are several to choose from here that are very legible: http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1671

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
I just figured out the break switch relay at the master cylinder may be faulty, I connected the GY wires together and TaDa! break lights. I got a switch fromm 311 datsun going to install later today. will I need break fluid for that????

Well, installed the relay switch at master cylinder... thats not it. going to the fuse panel. also have a problem with flashers. they just stay on no flashing. How ever turn signals work correctly except one is catching the blink when it shouldn't. Ground wire touching???

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
The hazard lights have a separate flasher. That might be the problem with the 4-ways.
If the brake light switch didn't fix the problem, it is possible that you have blockage in the master cylinder. With the brake switch off, apply a little pressure on the pedal and make sure that fluid comes from the hole that the switch came out of.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
IrishPatrol, a couple of questions:
1. When you initially bypassed the brake switch, you said you had brake lights. Bypass that again and see what happens next. Are the brake lights coming on, and are the two lights the same intensity? I don't know if your brakes are functional at the moment. If not, as RiverPatrol mentioned, if there's no pressure, the brake switch will not actuate.
2. If you are having erratic flashing of the lights or one side different from the other, it is possible that the rear lights are wired incorrectly. So in one side, the marker light could be on when it is the turn signal the one that should be. This will cause the blinker to be erratic because one light bulb is of a lower wattage.
3. Even if the brake switch is not working, it shouldn't pose any problem for the turn signals, so try to concentrate on them first.
4. Have the rear lights been replaced?
I'm not familiar how the hazard switch is wired. Could be the problem. I would like to see a diagram of how they are, since I would like to install one myself.
Hope you can solve this. We'll give you a hand.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
Thanks guys, Haven't had as much time to trouble shoot this as I would like. Been working making money to support this new Habbit. Will take your notes and apply soon will let you know what happens. I am pretty sure I have the Tile lights wired correctly.turn signals are questionable as I traced the wires back to where the harnes gets wrapped. They did do some adding of wire at the back end by the tail light. I have purchased a complete wiring harness from my new found buddy Mark in albaquerque N.M. I have quite a few spliced and alterations in my harness that make me wonder about some of the implications. The harness is used but all in one piece including the fuse box. Some one put a new fuse box in My patrol allong with a new dimmer switch, which was run with all new wire and the old was left in place and cut. Why do they do that!!!? to me wiring is like plumbing...... I dont like it! Water allways finds a way!

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
Ok, got brake lights working. Thanks River. blockage at the master cylinder. How ever now I have the Electric fuel pump priming when brake is applied... also the Wipers work.... Wow! Fun stuff. Thinking they must have some things jumped at the fuse box wrong. I plan to eliminate the Fuel pump and install the new mechanical pump I purchased. (Any one know if the spacer is required? i see it for sale where I got the Pump. Not sure if I need it.) also I have discovered a unconnected wire GW with a Black one in my glove box. Diagram shows a Dash light (option?) Where is this light located. I have all the instriment Ilumination lights where they should be. Will take a look at the fuse Panel and the diagram later. Thanks for the help.
