Here are the latest pics of my progress to date.
I assure you, as soon as I get a day off I am going to hit this beast from morning to sundown! Next pictures will show much more progress. It is hard to see in the shots but I have been repairing a lot of little drilled holes, old repairs and removing surface rust. Haven't run into any surprises yet.
I am really itching to test out my newly acquired knowledge of mixing/shooting paint.
I filled the 4 steering wheel cracks with marine putty (yes, I drilled holes for the putty to grab into). I sanded and primed then sanded and primed then sanded and primed. When I get home I think I will sand and prime again then maybe once more before 400, 800 and 1500 sanding. I will post the materials I used to coat it when I'm done.

I've noticed that the previous owner cut the inside of the rear fender (where the back seat mounts) to allow more travel for the driver's seat. I did the same on mine when I installed some better seats. But of course, yours are much better done and clean.

My steering wheel had 2 big cracks and 2 that weren't completely all the way around. I watched the video link with the "less than handsome bald guy" and did what they did. I just used store bought materials. I used JB Weld Marine Putty. used a dremel and beveled the crack edges then made numerous cross drilled holes to allow the putty to grab into. It took about an hour to harden. the next day I sanded it then primed with Rustoleum primer. I haven't coated it yet. I wanted to use the Por 15 Blackcote but it isn't compliant for Ca and I couldn't get it. I am going to use gloss back oil base Rustoleum. Im sure it wont have the same qualities as Por 15 but it is stupid cheap and if it fades I can re-coat.

The previous owner did cut the tub wall but if you think it's clean you got another thing comin It was welded really good but it is not straight. It is really crude for my taste. The platform for the seats is warped and dented too. I know its a rugged vehicle but I think it could have been done much better. I have no idea how to mount the seats on the contraption that was made and welded where the driver's seat goes...?

My biggest fear is finishing. I love obsessing over this beast. The more I do the more I want to do. I am considering putting in my notice at work so I can spend more time on her. Somehow that doesn't seem practical though

Today I was able to find many of the rubber grommets that fit wiring holes, wiper motor shaft and various other holes. Not sure if the compatibility list has them but they are available at Lowes in the specialty drawer section/grommets in the Hardware department.

Since I am chatting, remember how I was going to be "given" a G60? Well, it is in a hard to reach area that is overgrown with brush. It is on a friends property. He is going to move to AZ within the next few months and asked me to come take a look. I asked if I could bring a tool box. He said I could take as much as I want. I will bring my camera...
