You should be able to find them. I forget what the correct term is for them, but they are used for marine tarps frequently. Searching canvas hardware or upholstery hardware should turn them up. The smaller ones that push on to the pins are called lift dots.

Thanks Leslie I'll keep that in mind. The canvas doesn't feel like its dried out but a good waterproofing should see it lasting a while longer. As for cleaning it... I'm not sure yet. I don't want to blast it with the guerney in case it rips the canvas but I think something similar would work.

Dave - I guess you're referring to a handerchief? Haha old school! As Leslie said the snaps are called Lift the Dot. The eyelets are out there but just not sure if you'll find that exact style.

Have you used punch grommets before? Simple to use and will alow you the thread a tie down to your top.

Omg! I started reading from the beginning and I am so tired from all the work you've done. So much in so little time and it really looks great!

Went and picked up the '72 from storage a couple of days ago. When I got it home I realised that when the taillights were on the brake lights were too. Did some digging (with a test light of course ) and found that the sockets were faulty and shorting.

When disconnected and tested individually they were ok. My taillight sockets arnt the best anyway so I decided to gut them and replace the insides.

I started with a pair of these. I bought them a while ago as I suspected my taillights were dodgy but just couldn't bring myself to putting Land Rover lights on my Nissan. They also looked out of place against the Nissan indicators.



As you can see my poor ol taillight is a corroded mess. No wonder it was full of intermittent problems.




I then cut the socket out of the LR light and cut the end of the 60 light. Sorry must have forgotten to get a pick of the LR socket




As you can see the LR socket no longer requires an earth to be through the body of the light. There Is a separate wire that bolts straight to the chassis.

I then warmed up the boot with a heat gun and pulled it over the 60 socket. Trimmed it and ran some silicone around the edge. I was experimenting as I went with this one. I did actually go back and clean some of the scale off it haha



And final photo of it all mounted up. A nice sealed taillight using the original 60 Series lens.

Hey Bosque, I've been doing some digging. The button holes are called "common sense grommets" made by the same company that make lift the dot fasteners

I did end up finding them and there are some diffs to consider. 5/8 vs 3/8, SS vs nickle, machine thread stud vs self tap vs cloth application....

Well the '72 passed its roadworthy yesterday. Now it's off to get it registered, my appointment is 8:30 this morning
