What a great way to spend a day! I agree, the lifted look is good.

Well, It's for real! I dropped the '67 Patrol engine off this morning at Mother's Automotive Machine Shop in sunny Fair Oaks, CA! Dave, the owner, seems like a good guy and comes highly recommended by some folks in the know! He should have it apart, cleaned up and measured by the end of the weeks so it seems like we'll be ordering parts very soon... Help? I'll probably be leaning on everyone for tips and sources for parts so get ready!

Woohoo! Good to hear. I've been waiting for a progress update on the Family Patrol project.

Search some other posts for more detailed info but Motor Power Inc for most of the new parts. Datsun311parts on eBay for all the seals and gaskets. Both kits are not perfect so there will need to be some finessing with the exact parts. I think I have a list somewhere of the gaskets that were not correct in his kit but its at home and I won't be bk there for another couple weeks. He will send you the correct stuff if you mention it to him. He may have changed his kit as I talked to him extensively about its contents but its better to ask first so that you don't end up having to wait for replacements or just making your own. Hope this helps.

Great news! I just got a phone call from the machinist... The short block is in "very good condition" and the head (although yet to be disassembled) looks really good as well. He says that all the rings and bearings are standard! His recommendation is a quick honing along with some rings and bearings and we'll be off and running! He'll call me about the head tomorrow... fingers crossed!

On another, somewhat related note, I'm quite partial to Nissan blue for the entire engine (pan to valve cover). If G60michael is right in this thread, that's the correct color for a '67. http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic ... lor#p15140

That is great news! That sounds much, much better than the last report you shared on an engine. This report actually sounds very much like what I would expect for a Patrol engine with normal wear on it.

That is exactly the color I want -- Actually, what I want more is that oil filler cap! Not to mention the detail of the painted cap bolts on the chrome washers... very nice touch!

The engine blue is available online.. on ebay motors.. do a search for datsun paint and it is shown as item #400654907224. Spendy but it is available... $36 a can plus shipping.. The oil filler cap is also available under datsun parts... Hope you can find them. Congrats on the block being in such good shape.

Good thing I was sitting down when I read $36 per can! Ouch! By the time I'm done, I have two engines to paint! Perhaps I can copy jwgreen's color mix when he posts it soon and have some mixed up myself.
