Well this weekend the wife is away so I’m free to play 4WD’s and not get in trouble, or have to go to cafe’s or go shopping, you get the drift.
So have a 4WD planned on Saturday to test out the mods on the GU, back again to Blacksmiths where I got bogged last time.
Sunday planning on fixing the ABS line on the GU, install the MQ Dual Barrel carbie already mounted to a manifold on HP. Just need to work out linkages etc. Also might try and make a start on the home made roof top tent. Main factor will be if it’s raining or not. Been showering on/off last 10 days or so tent stuff may go on hold.

Well just been talking with Ferdy and have decided.
FUTURE PLANS ARE
1- 1972 Project will go on indefinite hold, panels back into shed for storage, chassis and MQ diffs to south coast for storage, gain a garage back in Sydney
2- Was planning on doing the body lift on HP to clear the 35" wheels. This entailed undoing all body bolts
3- Will undo all body bolts, then electricals, fuel and brake lines.
4- Will lift complete cab with 10 able men straight back on tray (will roll bar removed).
5- Will then drop rebuilt drive line straight in, do new exhuast etc.
6- fit body lift and reinstall cab
7 - All done in Two weekends all going well
Benefits are
1- Gain garage back
2- 1972 chassis is empty again and will then arrange to cut and weld new front springs mounts for the MQ diff.
3- Then restart body build with no engine .
4- Sort engine out later etc.

Today installed the 2" springs which I had swapped out of the 72 when the MK springs were installed, also extended shackles. Now have about 4" between the tyres and guards. Need to see how good bad it is and may also do a 1" BL after rego inspection., maybe longer shackles to get some more uptravel. I dont really wont to cut the guards, or stuff it, maybe just install the 2" BL

mr muck wrote:that 60's looking mean steve i reckon you should cut the guards, would have to be easier + quicker than a body lift,+ stay more compliant.
The guards on HP are in great condition so didnt want to risk stuffing anything up, any tips. Now I have the 2" springs I want to extend the bumpstops 2" and then see how close we are to hitting guards.
If I do cut guards any tips ?

Well just quickly measured the clearances on front bumpstops. Take note someone removed the bumpstops which I need to re-install.
Between diff and chassis - 7"
Between 35" tyre and guard - 4.5"
Bumpstop height - 3" say compressed 1.5"
So available clearance of 4.5 plus 1.5 bumpstop = 6"
I reckon 1" BL and 1" Bumpstop spacer will increase clearance to 8" with 7" gap, taking note on a flex the tyre will travel more so this 1" etxra is needed.
Anyhow still thinking

Well last night I installed teh front bumpstops with a 1" extentsion, went and flexed her out all good.
Rego is due on teh car now so this weekend will be a tidy up so I can get her inspected and registered for another year. Hopefully locate this transfer oil leak.

Well started cleaning the ute up for rego today.
Cleaned out all the bits and peices rattling around the cab. Installed a 120amp hour battery and original battery holder thanks to Gibbo. Adjusted rear drums, will do the front tomorrow. Polished one side of teh cab, will do the other tomorrow as well.
One of the front wheels is squeaking ? will back the drums off tomorrow first and see if goes away, as might be the wheel bearing, drum full of mud, or drum rubbing, will find out soon enough. Went for a small drive to work the gearbox and check oil leaks, appears to be seeping through some gaskets and now I know where it is I dont care, will also top levels up and start to monitor in a log book at what the oild are doing.
As far as packing for Simo will borrow a sheet metal box from a mate which is 1700 x 400 x 400 which will fit nicley across the ute, ute tray is 1850 x 2150. So wil also try and start working out a packing system.
