What do you do with your Patrol?

The reason I ask is that I am interested in doing some more challenging trails (3-4 on Moab scale) and I was wondering if any of you have attempted a trail of this caliber. If not, what do you take your Patrols on, and how easy is it to snap an axle shaft? I plan on running at least 31's, but no bigger than 32's (I have a set of 32's). Can I run the 32's without breaking parts? Or will I just snap every part on the drivetrain?

No one knows how they use thier rig? Or just scared to answer? I really don't care. I want to know how hard I can use this thing.

There are few guys here that have did some major upgrades to thier rigs, (ie only thing stock is the body and frame) but for the most part I think that the guys here are into pleasure stuff. I for one wouldnt turn convert a PATROL into a rock climber, even if I could, they are just too rare. If you really want to beat on someting, sell that PATROL to someone that will take care of it and go buy a Land Cruser and beat on it... Because no one will miss it when it goes belly up!

I, for one, just use my Patrol for hunting. As such it is far from rock climbing, but it always gets me there and back. I couldn't speak for the big tires as I just have 235s on mine. I do tend to agree that they are too rare to modify, but mine was already modified when I got it. Chev. 292. Obviously, the choice is yours. Keep us informed.

Well, I already have a locked and lifted (not much) Nissan Pathfinder, and it's ALWAYS got me there. And then some... I want my Patrol to be able to at least do some stuff that a stock Pathfinder can do (We have a guy we go out with who has a 95 Pathfinder that is lower than stock height and he can somehow make it over EVERYTHING. The one I am buying comes with 31's on it. Will these rub at all? I am thinking since there isn't much for aftermarket (much like my Pathfinder, except www.4x4parts.com, tell them Mike Soo sent you!), I think I will just restore it to VERY nice condition, and use it as a moderate trail rig. The front of the Pathfinder will get locked up since there isn't much for the Patrol. Mike

i wheel mine pretty dam hard, i run 5+ trails all the time but i'm the one with only a body and frame patrol. to try and answer your q, i ran 33's on mine when it was stock, the only problem i had was a broken long rear axle, twice. i couldnt find just another axle the second time so i bought a whole nother patrol. now one is restored with spares and the other is insane!! go for it, wheel it responsibly and it wont let you down.

5+ trails? Umm... what scale are you going off of? I am going off the Moab scale. (1-5) so, would a 5+ be a 2.5+? I have taken my Pathfinder on one 4.5 trail. (Grizzly Lake in Colorado, by Tincup?) The road was nothing but big rocks, wet mud, and loose gravel. An unlocked rig would not make it up without a winch.

no, i mean 5+ as in 5 and over on the rubicon scale. watch the video on the rock crawl championship here in phx. i run trails like axle alley ,terminator , h2h ,woodpecker, ajax and so on. heard of any? you could call these extreme trails, broken parts abound, but thats part of the fun.

You live in Phoenix??? I live in Gilbert!!! Please give me a call when you can (6028261663) so I can see your rig! I go out and run trails like Box Canyon and the Coke Ovens. I've also run Lower Woodpecker (er, which ever one is the easy one) and poked around on the harder ones. Check out the Southwest Forum on www.4x4parts.com UBB. I think most of us live in the Phoenix area, and we all go out and hammer our IFS Nissans. I definitly want to see your truck!

McSoo, I think a Patrol will easily out do a stock Pathfinder if you disconnect/remove the swaybars. IFS (without a locker) will never be able to keep all the tires in contact compared to a solid axle suspension. Plus the wimpy V6 in the Pathfinder doesn't have the torque to push you up any large grades. I go wheelin with a friend at work who has a stock Pathfinder and he can't keep up with my Cherokee. David
