Front Break Locks Up - Help!

Really old stuff that got saved. Here are the old Nissan Patrol Club America messages from the 'General' category. Warning, it's dusty in here!

Front Break Locks Up - Help!

Post by npca-bucky »

Hi,   I'm having a problem with the breaks on my 69 patrol.  The front right wheel locks up when you hit the breaks and it dives to the right.  I've tried backing off , cleaning, etc and can't figure it out.  I thought it was the leaky cylinder on the left causing the problem and all the grab was comming from the right but after replacing a bad cylinder it still happens.  Any ideas would be appreciated.   Thanks,   Bucky

You might try bleading the brakes, their might be some rust in your brake lines.Start with the furthest brake from the mastercyclinder first.I had that problem with my old 240z ,their was air in the opposite side caliper, causing the car to pull to the side.It does'nt take long for the fluid to become contaminated and turn black,so changing all the fluid would be good.   Good Luck,Willie

Bucky,This one, on my '69, drove me crazy for a week.Your problem my not be grabbing right brake but a left brake thats not working properly. Check that left brake and make sure it's doing the job.                           Gary

Didn't mean for the short thanks to be added like that above. As it turned out I had to replace both brake cyl in the front left, then bleed and adjust them all. Gary you were right in that the left front was not grabbing soon enough because it was also way out of adjustment. Thanks for your comments and help, I'm back on the road again:)Bucky
