New 67 Patrol L60 owner needs help!!

Hey All....My Dad just pick up a 67 L60 patrol that is in mint condition body wise but needs some engine work. I am wondering if anyone knows where to get and engine manual for this model. It also need some front end rubber, wondering were to look to find some? Also I am wondering if anyone knows if a 240zx or 280z will fit in the engine compartment. The great thing is the prior owner left a spare engine in the back but both need work and we are considering a full re-build. Also has the orginal 3 speed trany and transfer case. Just wondering what your expert opinion is on motor, rebuild or put an american in. What about a trany? And how hard are parts to find for them? I haven't seen what it looks like as Im in CO(not far from you all) and he is in CA. But I am excited to get going on the rebuilding process. The other thing is there is only 68,000 on the engine, the patrol has sat in storage for some time. Lasly have any of you had any major problem or are the prone to problems?? Advanced Adapters makes a kit for a Ford six cylinder. I have a Chevy 292 in mine. The bolt patterns are the same from the 292 to the original tranny, But you will need to make a spacer to compensate for the longer shaft in the Nissan tranny. This can be done fairly easily. I talked to a guy a while back and he paid a mechanic $2000 for a rebuild. I have not dealt with original engine parts so I have no idea of cost or availibility. I really enjoy the 292 in mine. One more thing. Broken rear axles are a major problem. If you go with a powerhouse motor put a different rear end in it or have extras on standby.

Again I must Amen to Speck.I had my engine rebuilt ($2400 but included +.060 pistons, water pump and fuel pump.) all parts were available. Go to the oldest Nissan dealer you can find. They may still have the books to order parts and you'll need a clerk that is patient enough to look them up for you or I bought one of the dealers part books so give me a yell, I'll look up the number. You ask about the tranny. I've got a MARKS 5 speed (Advanced Adapters) in mine at about $2600 installed.My best source for other parts also copies of a lot of Nissan Manuals is a really neat guy in New Mexico who is parting out 5 Patrols. FYI - According to Randy at Wayzata Nissan (who is one of the greats in obtaining Patrol Parts) engine rebuild parts were sold out as of at least August '99 which is when I first went looking, he said the last set of valves went to a guy in Nebraska as long as a year earlier. I have heard that one can get engine rebuild parts at a Nissan forklift dealer if you ask for parts for the P motor, any confirmation of this would great.

I just had my 67 rebuilt last year. Parts is what adds up. they're scarce. I don't know if the other Nissan engines will fit, but I do know that the Patrol engine is a lot bigger. I have an extra engine head and bell housing left over if you need it. Depending on where in CA he lives, I would suggest John at Japanese Car Specialties in Mission Viejo. He just rebuilt mine a year ago so he should remember his sources for parts. The number is 714-583-0811. If you need any other info e-mail me.

Last year in August I was able to find the original service and engine service manuals at Schiff european automotive literature inc. 505 atwood ave., cranston , ri. 02920 .Telephone no.401-946-5785. They were available at that time.

as parts get harder to find there going to be costly. I switcht to all ford 289moter/ np 435 trany/ adapted dana 300 tcbox/ ford 9 in (58 t bird is the same size) rear end / and stock front. this way your parts are alot cheper. if you have any ? im at soto100_95667@yahoo.com
