oil filter innards !? i dont have any!!!

Say isnt there suposed ta be something inside this thing? besides the filter to make it flow THRU the filter not all around it? i thought there is something missing inside, but i dont know what,,,,, Please help??  or has anyone found a add on external filter setup that will work?? and if anyone has these misterious innnardds to my filter please lemme know Ill buy'em!! Thanx..... Chaz.
