1978 MWB G60 - Farm Hack

Post by G60michael »

This is the old Farm Hack, Originally was going to be the Restoration project, but the Rust has settled into much, and plus with my other G60 being older and having done less Work and in a lot Better condition, why bother in a restoration at this Stage.

Originally My old man Owned 2 G60 in his time before I came along. I was offered this G60 a Few years ago, and the old man was glad that I took it on, and since having since caught the G60 Patrol sickness.

In the years I have had the G60,she has done a lot of work around the farm, and hasn’t had an easy life, but it just happily keeps on chugging, and slaving it guts out to make sure she get the job done, she is an absolute workhorse.

The chassis is actually quiet good, considering it was driven on the beach, except the Cross member below the gearbox is rusted out.

In the time owning this G60 all I have replaced was
- Alternator
- Sparkplugs
- Oils
- Dizzy Points
- Brake Booster
- Few hundred litres of Petrol

I am always surprised at how badly the windshield frames rust out on many G60s. I don't think I have ever seen that happen on a US Patrol.

So cool that this Patrol is still being used as a reliable workhorse. :D

I like the big NISSAN emblem across the grill and the three wipers on the windscreen.
I see the dash arrows/turn indicator lights have a square one centered, what is that? Hazards/Emergency flash indicator?

High beam indicator. Our '69's are the same way.

Yesterday Arvo was Plotting around the Garage, and Decided to Drill the Remains of Broken door Hinge Pins from the hinges using the pedestal Drill. Re-fitted the rusty old Passenger Side Door, and used Bolts for the New Door Pins. Image

Also the Current Ignition Switch was Dangling down and would usually bang against your knees as you drive around the property, so I Managed to manoeuvred around the wires and poked the ignition barrel through the Bash/Cluster, and fixed it into place using the Original retaining Nut that’s lived in the glove box since I have owned it, looks a lot better and neater this way though.

Also I decided since painting the Green 1966’s G60’s Wheels ,I though I may as well paint the Old Toyota Lands cruiser Split Rims that Originally came on my 79’ G60,but this was just a Cheap and Quick Job, a $7 Taubmans Paint Sample Pot from Bunning’s, they aren’t destined to be quality I, figured there only going to get scratched again.

Also while Rummaging through the Glove box ,I managed to find the Bulb that goes in the Original Glove box/Map Light, and yes it still works really Well.

Hey everyone, after almost 10 years of ownership, I've finally let go of my very first g60, in fact the very First car I owned my self, and the one I first learnt to drive in.

Sadly the old girls life came to an end, Cancer Killed the old girl, it was all through her body, except the local g60 doctor determined the Heart was in Perfect working order, so before she went to the grave we done heart transplant to a much needing patient, The Patient is going great and is back on the road and registered, might take it for a Drive on the weekend 8-)

I've had some of the best fun in this old g60, I loved her, but sometimes you have to do what it take, for me it was to remove engine and scrap body to fit to my perfect body SWB but someone didn't rebuild the engine properly or maintain it after the rebuild.

Ill miss it 150% but ill never forget it, my first car, the only one I couldn't kill, and the fact that she won my heart with g60's that's why I've owned 11 so far 8-)
Plus ive saved the front Grill to hang in the shed and the Compliance plates are Nailed to the post of the shed :)

Cheers

Great words Michael. Many of us will relate to your story and understand the sorrow but also the new life you are giving to the soul of that Patrol, and although somehow different, we all have a special attachment to a car.

We have seen over this years your development with Patrols. You should be extremely proud with what you've done.
