Chromed Parts

Post by azsteve »

Like many small mammals, I have an affinity for neatness and shiny things! So when I read through the posting by Zed on another forum I thought he had a fantastic idea to put together a master list of chromed parts. It's a pain to jump back and forth from one site to another so I figured I would just repost/compile/organize the pertinent info from that thread instead of attaching a link or something.

I haven't contributed any info to this list, lol, just a lot of cutting and pasting. In the collection process I'm sure I made some mistakes so, please, correct away for errors/redundancy/lack of specificity/etc!

Chromed Parts

Headlight trim rings
Turn signal trim rings
Grill bar
Door handles - exterior
Door handles - interior
Window cranks
Right rear door inner and outer handles
Fender and hood emblems
Switch, choke and ignition switch bezels
Lever to lift seat on passenger side
Hardtop overhead light ring
Mirror housings - (up to '68)
Inner door pull handles - (up to '68)

*(When did the items below change, and to what?)

Some horn button trim rings (some had a non-glare finish)
Early rear light rings
Early style indicator stalk
Early rear reflectors have a chrome ring

Brushed Metal/Zinc/Non-glare finish/Other
*(Which of the above would the below items be???)

Wiper arms
Vent window lever
Mirror housings - (after '68)
Inner door pull handles - (after '68)

---When stock, was just the grill bar chromed or the expanded metal backing also? Every time I see a pic it seems that the backing is painted, but the very first Patrol I ever saw was all chrome, so...?

---What about the rear view mirror? I assume that is included in "Mirror Housings", but one does get tired of making an ass out of oneself, lol...

---Any differences between L60's and G60's of the same year?

okay, I added that to the list. Also, it made me think of the gas cap... Mine is not chrome, seems to be brushed metal, so adding that to the list too.

I am not sure it was a original option. I think it was on the UAE or Dubai super clean Patrol G60 and could have been done extra.
Don't forget the hubcaps...! :D

So should we start calling you Squirrel, or perhaps Funky Monkey? :D

The horn trim ring didn't change with any particular year, it was just an option that some Patrols had at various times.
The early rear tail light trim rings were up to '68. Those are the ones with the glass lenses. I think '68 and later might have had a very narrow chrome trim embedded in the rubber surround.
The indicator stalk changed in '69.
The rear reflectors were used up to '68.

The inner door pulls on '68 and later were black plastic. The end pieces were chrome.

Wiper arms, mirror housing, vent levers were just unpainted metal, maybe zinc coated to prevent rusting.
Beyond any hope for intervention

No, but I've seen some that a PO had had chromed; I've even seen an ashtray and a hood prop that were chromed.

On one of the Patrols that I sold last summer, a previous owner had chromed the shift levers, grab handles, the windshield latches, the defroster outlets. Unfortunately, after many years of neglect, the rust was starting to attack the chrome in many places.... I'm sure that it was a pretty thing when it was new...

Thank you for the info, here is the updated list:

Chromed Parts

Headlight trim rings
Turn signal trim rings
Grill bar
Door handles - exterior
Door handles - interior
Window cranks
Right rear door inner and outer handles
Fender and hood emblems
Switch, choke and ignition switch bezels
Lever to lift seat on passenger side
Hardtop overhead light ring
Hubcaps!
Horn button trim ring (optional)
Oil Filler Cap (optional??)

Chromed Up to '68

Mirror housings
Inner door pull handles
Indicator Stalk
Rear Reflectors
Rear light rings
Inner door pulls
Vent window lever

Chromed after '68

Rear light rings (narrower ring)
Inner door pulls, end pieces

Brushed Metal/Zinc/Non-glare finish/Other

Fuel Filler Cap
Wiper arms
Mirror housings - (after '68)

*"Mirror housings" applies to both side view and rear view mirrors.
*No differences between L60's and G60's
*Only the horizontal beam on the grill was chromed, not the expanded metal backing behind it.

Obviously anything can be chromed and can be considered "optional." What I'm concerned with is things that may have been optional with the dealer or OEM at time of manufacture.

What happened to these items after '68?
Indicator Stalk
Rear Reflectors
Vent window lever
