Name that part!
This can be a fun way to learn about aspects of your Patrol that you might not have known before. Post up a picture of a part and have everyone guess what the part is. Once the correct answer is posted - or the stumper answer is given - there can be some discussion on the part; its purpose, model years it may have been on, availability, etc. I'll start of with a part that is rarely discussed.

Re: Name that part!
Sounds right Tim. Theres 1 on the gas tank and 1 on the metal fill pipe. Gotta wait for Leslie to get out of bed to confirm if its upper or lower. Seems to me the lower 1 was more like 90 degrees.miller wrote:Looks like the fuel filler breather to me

Tim was first with the answer but.... I must say I did run out and look but was too busy to answer and was not sure if it was the upper or lower as well. Really! I did.

It is the lower tube into the tank because the upper is just one turn, looks like at 90*.

Re: Name that part!
Miller is the closest to being right, but only because he was vague, and first.
It is indeed a fuel tank breather tube. It is attached to the upper one that is on the filler neck itself. It is held in place by a metal tab under the wheel well just above the fuel filler neck. It is #16 in the diagram below.
It is positioned so that the small hole in the end on the left is facing downward. This placement keeps dirt and debris thrown up from the tires from getting in to the gas tank. It also keeps water from flowing down the breather tube in to the gas tank when fording deep water. It easily gets clogged up with debris and it is a favorite location for mud wasps to build their nests. When it gets clogged (assuming the rest of the breather system is intact) you might notice that when you are filling the fuel tank the nozzle will keep shutting off (this is for the US with the Evaporative Recovery type fuel nozzles) which can get very annoying when trying to fill a 20 gallon tank and the filler shuts off after every half gallon or so.
This is because the fuel tank can no longer 'breath'. Often the part is just plain missing, so your tank filling might be okay but you are susceptible to getting dirt in your fuel tank.
There's your mystery part lesson. Miller gets the Brownie button!

Re: Name that part!
Oh my....Green Machine is a pain in the ass to fill because of this however it is an aftermarket tank so perhaps it isn't even there and just blocked off. I shall investigate shortly though! Thread is worth it's weight in gold already...well, worth it's volume in gold? I'm not sure how you weigh or measure something that really takes no space. Lol,
