Door Straps

Post by bosque »

This is a good resource. I bought a set.
landcruiserparts on ebay has these door straps for sale. Like you see on my Patrol for $95 smackollas. The ad on ebay is for lc's and has a hefty bar in front, those are for landcruisers $125. I have the driver side set up one way and the pass. opposite/flipped to see what is better. I like the driverside direction with the end tab pointing back. The bracket on the back has 2 holes and my 67 has 1 hole in the tub....I think you could not break a 3/8 bolt so that you need to buy.

Straps look stout enough but the hooks look a little weak!

That is a fair observation and I would like to see a solid vs. stamped metal...like a carabiner....also I would prefer an anodized or metal finish rather than painted.
....but the glass is half full because they do seem stout enough to hold you in, they do have the same era/original look, and they are here, finished, ready to use. Check out the comparison with this FirePatrol door strap....

I am a DIY guy and could make these. If I wanted them to be bomber stout and did not care about looks I would buy 2" flat (not tubular) webbing, SS carabiners, maybe "D"'s or just sew/bar tac it to size, and the back bracket can be made if you have minor metal skills and tools.....but you have to do the job....that is why these seem a fair value. I like these straps and am ready for springtime cruisin' :!:
Like washing your car, I put those straps on to show you all and this morning there is a bit of snow!

Those do look very authentic, probably as close as you're going to find ready-made. I wouldn't be too concerned with the strength of the hardware: if you're that far out the door I think the strap won't be holding you inside the truck anyway. ;) Very nice, thanks for sharing!
Beyond any hope for intervention

Yeah River. I did slap myself out of thinking about my dogs sliding out the doorway....nightmare that would only occur if we are stupid. New rule....DITTO = dogs in the tub only!
Again, if you walk through what these do, you'll see the hardware is plenty fine.
