Hi everyone, a quick question, just wondering what are these ports (Circled) on the air filter and oil bath are for ? They appear a vacuum line or something Can someone please help out, as i would love to get them hooked up

Welcome to one of the mysteries in the Patrol, and thanks for reminding us. This can be an interesting topic for discussion. I don't have an answer.

Years ago we tried to figure this out with my brother, but didn't come with a good reason for them, and soon we forgot about it. As you'll see, it's not even mentioned in any of the parts catalogs. At the very least, the one under the flat part of the air filter should be capped. I've never seen one with a cap.

I once tried to connect into it an air filter indicator that came from a heavy equipment machinery. This indicators tell you when the air filter is clogged. But in an oil bath air filter, they will not work because they don't clog in the same way as a paper filter, and probably can take years of neglect to show a reading. We can also open a debate regarding oil bath filters and their advantages or not.

The port in the canister, is even a biggest mystery.

Both of these ports go to the water protect distributor. There are 3 vacuum lines that connect to the water protect distributor: 1 from the vacuum advance to the carburetor; one from the base of the distributor to the air filter cover; and one from the base of the distributor to the air filter body. It's a US thing...

Not so fast! Show as a picture of the lines connecting to the air filter.

Oh ye of little faith...

Leslie is right, before i put the 292 in my patrol the original engine was untouched and these lines were right where she indicated.

Thanks everyone for the help, its got me wondering why my oil Bath canister being in Australia for an aussie g60 has the ports though

I would venture to guess that they were all that way? If Esteban and his brother have puzzled over this question in Ecuador, it would stand to reason they were all that way. Maybe they changed in the '70s?
