Twin tanks

Hi guys, just been researching about what my '76 soft top actually is. The plate says G60HWU so it's the heavy duty model (H - heavy duty, W - Australian model, U - RHD) but it has the cutout in the driver's side rear just behind the door for the fuel filler and the mounting brackets underneath for a second fuel tank. Did many of these things come out with the 2nd tank?

Pics? I am not aware that a second tank was a factory option. Maybe in other countries it was offered, or it was an aftermarket modification.

I myself don't know either if it were a factory option. I have never seen a dual tank set up in person until Monday. I have seen several backyard looking jobs but none i had seen on the net looked factory.


On Monday myself and Neil Went looking at some g60's we checked out one it was a 75 MWB in pretty good condition except the windscreen and Front guards. What really stood out to myself and Neil was the Dual Fuel fillers, I didn't get a good look underneath for the second tank but its probably still there.

The Job we seen very well may have been a factory extra, and was done professionally. I didn't grab a photo unfortunately, but i got on the Paint programme and customized on my blue 78 what it looked similar to on the 75 G60.

What made us think it was a very professional job was
- The Pannel work (was indented into the panel like it usually is on the original filler)
- Both original twin locking fuel caps and rubber grommets were original and identicial.

- here is a photo similar to what it was like, except it had twin caps ect.

Not factory option but some dealers offered it with delivery just like the fibreglass tops sold on a lot of Aussie Patrols in the 70's.

My old '71 wagon had the twin tanks. Had a switch to change between them and 3 fuel filters ($ at service time) and looked like it was professionally done though I now agree that it would have been an aftermarket thing. The 2 bits of angle to support the tank don't look original.

I know some fabricators that can knock me up a new tank no worries but getting the internal surround for the filler will be interesting but they could do that as well.
I'd have to move the exhaust out of the way to fit the tank and seeing as it's a V8 I suppose I would just have to put up with a pipe or two coming out just before the rear wheels either side

I mentioned Above a G60 Myself and Neil Checked out a few months back, I headed up there the other day to put a letter under the door of the shack so one day hopefully the owner will contact me, but he hasn't been there for a long time, and no one know his whereabouts.

I Grabbed a few photos of the dual tank set up on it, it looks factory to me, Very well done, here is a few pics

That does look like a factory job, including the factory gas caps. I wider if they're keyed alike? The 1979 brochure does list a fuel tank as optional equipment. Why didn't you crawl underneath an get pics of the tank?

i was thinking the same thing. would like to see underneath as well
