60Patrol

A friend of mine restores Toyota landcruisers, i asked him if he could bring me an old windshield gasket just to match up to the Patrol windshield. Its a perfect fit, other than it a bit too short. The profile is almost exact, the only difference is the outside is smooth on the landcruiser gasket. You will need to purchase two gaskets, cut to fit and glue them together. These gaskets are available from spector off road (http://WWW.SOR.COM) 1975-1983 Toyota landcruiser FJ40 not sure of the price yet. Here are some pics of the gasket installed in the frame and profile shots.

Lol IMAX, now this is an FJ40. The salvage yard here has an FJ55. As soon as work lets me have some time off, im going to check it out. Im hoping its exactly the same only longer. I will let you know as soon as i find out. By the way, i found the FJ40 gaskets on EBAY for $55.00

I recall having a conversation with the owner of Specter Off-Road (SOR) about windshield weatherstrip. He has a G61 he was restoring and needed a windshield weatherstrip. He noted that the difference between the Patrol and Toyota weatherstrip was the presence of an offset in the Patrol weatherstrip. The offset was from the channel that the glass fits into and the channel for the windshield frame. Apparently the Toyota glass inserts evenly with the windshield frame, whereas the Patrol windshield glass inserts slightly in front of the windshield frame. In other words, the Patrol windshield glass is larger than the opening in the windshield frame. What he had to do to compensate was to have ¼" shaved off the edge of the windshield glass so he could use the Toyota weatherstrip.

Im holding a Toyota FJ40 original gasket in my hands, and its exactly the same as the Patrol other than its shorter. Offset is exact. I would cut this toyota gasket and get you a pic of the profile, but my friend wants it back. Here are some pics. Of the FJ40 rubber installed with a piece of glass in it. Maybe aftermarket rubber is inline? I dont know. But im going to order one from Specter and find out, because i need one.

He was working with a G61, which was a 1980 model. Maybe the seal changed by then?

I just ordered 2 gaskets from Specter, $42.00 each. I will let you know what happens.

Spector off road has a customer service that is second to none. I ordered the windshield gaskets yesterday and Roger the person i have been talking to over there gave me a call back and asked me to email him a side profile shot of the gasket i needed. The original toyota FJ40 gasket grooves are offset like the Patrol gasket, but he said the oem and aftermarket gaskets they sell are inline. Anyway i sent him a profile shot of the Patrol gasket a few minutes ago, and he called me back. He said there was some confusion on what offset/inline meant. He also said that the gaskets he sells oem and aftermarket do have the offset im looking for. I will receive these gaskets sometime next week. I hope they are what i need. Roger at Specter off road went way out of his way to help me out with this, and its appreciated.

Here is an update on the windshield gasket from Specter Off Road part # 120-03C, $42.00 + shipping. I just received them today. They are offset, and will work perfectly. 2 will need to be purchased, cut to fit and glued together with eurethane. Rear glass gasket is next.

Do you have a picture of the profile of the Patrol seal?
