I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so!

Post by antiquecyles »

I am a new Patrol owner who is an admitted addict (of Patrols). I had never heard of them until I bought one in November.
I went to buy a '63 RHD Landrover off Craigslist. When I arrived he said "I just sold it". The guy had acres of really cool military/odd vehicles. I asked him to show me his most rare 4WD vehicle. He brought me to my baby. Now I feel like the first 44 years of my life were wasted. She's my number 1 lady in life. (Hey, come to think of it, she's my ONLY lady  ) Although I am in love I'm looking for a little action on the side...

I have been looking at the Datsun 320 trucks from the 60's and I WILL GET ONE. I am looking for one in good mechanical shape that I can clean up. (Yes, I saw the ones on ebay)
If anyone in Ca has anything I'd be interested in seeing.

( :shhh: Lets be discreet here, I haven't mentioned this to my dogs or my patrol)

Kris

there were two for sale on the 311.org web site. my buddy bought two and sold both after realizing he didn't have time to restore them while working on his roadsters. he tells me that parts are even harder to find for those than the roadsters.
if you follow through on buying one, go for the best you can afford, it will save you lots of moola in the long run. good luck

Most of the 320s that I have seen have a column mounted shift lever.
All 520s have a floor mounted shift lever.

My first rig was a 62 Chevy truck with 3 on the tree. I changed it to a Hurst floor shifter then blew up the 235. So it curently has a 327 with 350 turbo. still have it but haven't driven it since I moved it to the farm 7 years ago.

I know it don't rhyme, but the 320 is a "four on the tree".
3 1
4 2 R

Reverse is push fwd, pull out (right) push fwd again, then down. Bought my 64 in Ventura in 1972...Been terrorizing the citizenry of Fresno, Merced, Long Beach, now, last 25 yrs, Tulsa.
It's top speed is liken unto a Patrol ! 1200 cc engine, 512 rear axle. Hand cranks easily. I love it!
I bought a 1965 for parts about 17 yrs back, but it actually was fairly complete, so I began restoring it instead of stripping it.
I ran out of ambition and garage space, so sold it to a friend who had plans to re-engine it. He never started that process and now says he will prob sell it .
I'm posting this in the hope that somebody will take pity on her, adopt and restore her.
I had sold it for $1000. with the understanding that I could keep the trans, and other stuff as spares for mine.
I have the original engine (alas, with 2 piece crankshaft) at my place.
Bill Flagg.
