Hi All, How is everyone.

Over the last couple of weeks the Blue 1978 G60 has been DIESELING usually every time after I turn it off. While i have had it i have never had any previous issues with it doing it before i got it, but only recently has started doing it.

I need to get this problem fixed ASAP, Any Hints, Tips and Advice would be fabulous.

Dieseling is usually a sign that the timing is off, too retarded as I recall.

I'm with RiverPatrol that your timing is off. But usually it's because is too advanced. Maybe the bolt that secures the distributor position is not tight and has allowed the timing to change little be little. I set mine at 10 degrees BTDC.

If the timing is too advance you'll also have some piston knocking specially under power. If you don't have that right now, check to see if your carb keeps sending fuel once the engine is shut. Idle might be set too high, so the butterfly still allows some fuel to pass while the engine is shutting down. I'm more inclined to think this might be your case.

As has been said its your distributor timing. But for the life of me I cant recall which way your meant to turn the dizzy.

Well The Dizzy was to Advanced, So i moved it back to the "0" Position, it made no difference at all.

You have To FLOOD the engine to get it to stop, so what's the next thing, Check to see if the Carburetor is passing fuel ?

What is the easiest way to check that.

Michael, dieseling while the engine is running under a load is caused by timing. If the engine keeps trying to run after you turn the ignition off is caused by too high of an idle, or float level is off. More than likely idle is a bit too high.

Start checking the fuel level at the carb. Could be way too high.
Idle also might be high.
The air/fuel mixture screw needs adjustment and is probably a bit loose.
