1969 Patrol arrival from Texas
Hello you guys,,,,,,,,,I am Dave ( FijiLand ) and I live in Temecula, California. I am very new to this forum and know next to nothing about Nissan Patrols. I want to first thank Leslie ( River Patrol ) for her counsel. Without it I would never have pulled the trigger on this one. I know a fair amount about old Toyota Land Cruisers but without her advice I would have not called Rob in time to buy this beautiful 69. My friend Marv Spector ( God Rest his Soul ) owned a Nissan Patrol ( and alotta Land Cruisers ). It was the only one I had ever seen until this one arrived on my doorstep here in Temecula the other day. Perhaps some of you saw the detailed pictures that Rob ( cele3 ) posted online while he was selling it. Very down to earth pics that showed every detail, both the good, the bad and the ugly. When I purchase a old Land Cruiser I normally check things out very carefully if time allows. In this case, after Leslie examined the pics and I consulted with her, asking her advice on every detail, I went ahead and sent Rob the money, just shot from the hip and just in the nick of time as ''Bring A Trailer'' kicked in and the phone started ringing on Rob's end. I had no hesitation about paying full price for this Patrol even after he raised the price. In my gut I just sensed it was going to be a good one. I have wanted one for about 4 years now. I was lucky enough to track down the guy who restored the Patrol. He was the son in law of the owner who owned DOTSON'S DATSUN in Midland Texas and worked for Datsun / Nissan for 30 years. In a nutshell, the Patrol was completely restored from top to bottom at the dealership in 1994-95. Engine, Trany, Transfer, Electrical, Brakes, Clutch, Front / Rear Diff,,,,,,the list goes on and on actually, every detailed was addressed and as he said yesterday by phone: ''We did it all because we could ". The restore was frame off. The interior was redone and seat upholstery is OEM stock from Japan and in perfect condition both front and rear. The Valve cover and Air Filter are original, never repainted, just cleaned off during the restore. The Patrol ( so far,,,,,lol ) runs perfect, stops perfectly straight, shifts easily, all lights work properly. Since 1995 there has been approx. 15,500 miles put on the Patrol after the restoration. The original owner had it stored in an enclosed "hut" of some sort where it had been sitting for 11 years. The original owner was a hunter and the Patrol is from Texas originally. The Patrol was originally blue and " camo " when acquired by Dotson's Datsun. There was no cancer rust on the 60 when Fred Dotson bought it. He bought it with approx. 66k miles on it and then promptly restored it at the dealership where is stayed on the showroom floor, traveling locally through Texas on and off until 2002 when Rob bought the dealership. Rob in turn kept it on the showroom floor for two more years and then added it to his collection of car's at the warehouse ( pic attached of the Patrol in its ware house resting place ). Rob also drove it throughout Texas from 2002 until last week when he sold it to me. As mentioned, I live in Temecula, California, a very dry location just north of San Diego. I will garage the 60 but drive it on a regular basis around California. My daily driver is an old 1980 BJ41 Toyota Land Cruiser Diesel so I am quite happy driving the older trucks on a regular basis. I look forward to learning from you guys. I can tell from my numerous visits to the Forum that you are all dialed in. I really appreciate your knowledge. As mentioned, Rob put up the down to earth technical pics for everyone to review and analyze while deciding to purchase. Below, I went to the Wine Country here in Temecula at sunset today and just shot " Glam ". I felt like this Patrol really deserved it. So many people took such wonderful care of this Patrol. I spent most of the day yesterday going over it with my mechanic and also spent hours cleaning it from top to bottom. Hope you enjoy the pics. I am glad this Forum is here. Thanks in advance. I will be asking you all very elementary questions in the future. Sounds like your all very good teachers. By the way, sorry if I put up to many pictures. Let me know if I need to delete some. Best Regards, Dave

Re: 1969 Patrol arrival from Texas
Finally I get to do this: Welcome to 60Patrol!
Thanks for finally coming out.
I could hardly contain myself anymore.
Awesome pictures. Patrol porn at it's finest. Too many? I think not enough.
There is no limit on pictures, and if you haven't already you are welcome to create an album in the Gallery and upload to your heart's content. Those album pictures will be included in the random pics that display at the top of the forum. You take great pictures, and yesterday was a perfect day in Temecula for that. I don't know how I missed you, I was in wine country at sunset also. I had gone to the Rod Run with friends, then we stopped at a winery on Rancho Califonia to have some sangria before going to La Cocina for dinner.
Your Patrol Rocks!
The fact that you have confirmed the restoration by the person who did it is priceless. You stole that Patrol for the price you paid. I told you that I suspected that the dealership did a restoration there, using all the correct parts. I think Zed is going to be bugging you for some close-up pics of the upholstery, I know he's been chasing that for a while. The engine cleaned up beautifully. I look forward to seeing more of this Patrol, and hearing your opinion of it. I hope you are as pleased with your purchase as you anticipated you would be. I can honestly say, that Patrol is one of the finest that I know of. I think it even gives my Togo a run for it's money.
We have another member that just joined that is a Cruiser head also - chalawan in Los Angeles.
Oh, and that's a beautiful red Cruiser, too.

Beyond any hope for intervention

Thanks for the nice comments you guys. Leslie, I shot the pics on Rancho Cal road at "Van Roekel Winery". If you were also on Rancho at sunset we must have only been a stone's throw away. If you visit Temecula again please holler for a visit. Here is the pic of Rob's warehouse in Texas that I mentioned where the 60 went from Datsun Showroom to Top Shelf from 2002 to 2014. From my calculations Rob put between 3000 to 3800 miles on it during that time. Dave

Welcome and congratulations. We know now that this Patrol is in good hands.
You definitely need to create an album since it will be a constant reference for many of us.
Please, don't raise the suspension! Just kidding! But in the picture next to your Toyota (awesome by the way) I personally think the Patrol looks more proportionate.
Will be interesting to see how you feel the Patrol with sway bars front and rear compared with Toyotas withou them.

Hello Esteban, Yes, I agree regarding stock suspension. The Land Cruiser came to me lifted that way. The PO did a great job ( Old Man Emu Dakar ) but I have always opted for stock everything whenever possible. The Patrol's suspension will always remain stock. Thank-you. Dave
